Description
Felt like drawing Godzilla but took inspiration from the vintage 50's - 80's dinosaur illustrations (hunched back, round head, etc). Really love those old reconstructionsRelated content

I know this might sound weird but since I am better at drawing dinosaur-like legs, I would almost always draw godzilla or any other kaiju with legs like that

I love the harryhausen look of this design, very similar to the look of the Tyrannosaurus from valley of gwangi

I love it, it's tame and simple, but still very much Godzilla to the core. Fantastic work, favoriting.

of all the modernized Godzilla designs that take inspiration from retro dinosaur designs, this one feels like it makes the most sense, both stylistically and anatomically, i would have loved to see a film version of thisΒ

Well remember, Godzilla is not a dinosaur in the original or 2014 version. He's a fusion of land and sea reptiles.

RoFlo-Felorez In reply to JurassicReptile742 [2018-03-07 00:25:58 +0000 UTC]
yeah but i mean design-wise, the original was based off of a t rex and a stegosaurus put together, but Godzilla himself is not a stegosaurus/t-rex hybrid of courseΒ
i'm just saying that this design looks a lot more natural and makes more sense in terms of the retro-dinosaur designsΒ

Technically speaking, according to what was said in the movie, the 2014 Godzilla was around BEFORE the dinosaurs, unless i heard the dialogue incorrectly.

Yes. He was around in the Permian age and lived through all the mass extinctions that followed. In the original movie heΒ evolved from an ancient sea creature becoming a terrestrial animal, so he's actually a reptile in divergent evolutionΒ that became extremely powerful from the radiationΒ Β

ok but i'm just talking about the designs in an artistic sense, not biologically speakingΒ

Funnily enough, Toho initially wanted to make Godzilla with stop-motion, but they found it too expensive and time consuming.

WOW this kind of looks like the 1994 american Godzilla. i made a godzilla 94 film but Toho actually blocked it worldwide. i wish you can make your own version of the film for me.

Well seeing as how Godzilla was made up of 3 dinosaurs, T-Rex, Stegosaurus and Iguanodon, he seems pretty spot on in terms of their lizard-like appearance around the 50s. Could you make a Godzilla sketch had they done this concept around this day? SoΒ modern/recent predictions of these dinosaurs to make Godzilla.

FredtheDinosaurman In reply to AIpha-King [2018-01-04 17:46:00 +0000 UTC]
Technically already did. I basically took different dinosaur parts from varying species to make a frankenstein Godzilla:

Ah thatβs incredible! Thank you for responding to me, Iβm a very avid dinosaur and kaiju fan, so to see Godzilla realised this way is remarkable.
Could you do a similar thing with the other kaiju? Like Ghidorah or Rodan? Anguirus was apparently made from an Ankylosaur so thereβs exploration there, Rodan is a fairly obvious design.

TheseΒ oddly fit him, given dinosaur depictions at the time, as well as Godzilla's upright stature.
