It's strange to think that I've seen the original fossil during it's limited time in Nottingham last year.

It's nice to see people like you in the world, A lot of people I know like the giant, monsterous killers like T. Rex but it's nice to see that a smaller dino also has some fans

Thank you^^ i love all Chinese cretaceous paravians with Microraptor among my favourite because of their biology, way of folding wings, flight posture, feeding habits and overall look. I even have a dinosona based on Microraptor which i called Guy as play on words between guy of Microraptor gui and English word guy. A dinosona is like a fursona but instead of a mammal the creature that represents yourself is a dinosaur.

The dynamic pose really shows off this lil guy, beautiful work on its iridescence too!

I believe it should be darker even with iridescence taken into account, but other than that it's awesome as usual.

When I do these white background illustrations, I always like to keep a realistic approach to rendering them and like to think they're on a white backdrop photo set:

And since Crows and Ravens are most referenced to Microraptor's coat:

Realistically it makes sense for it to look lighter than you'd expect. Plus you have to think from an artistic POV, you dont want to hide the animal in pure black so the viewer cant see the form or shape and what's going on. It only looks lighter due to the warmer hues in the darker areas. If I added cool hues to those areas, it would look darker.

The restoration from the 2012 paper is not overly dark, and it's also on a white background: projects.ncsu.edu/cals/course/…

Yes, well, while I'm not Mick Ellison (the paper's artist linked?), I'm also neither drawing this animal in the same pose nor in the same lighting. The brightness in my reconstruction is slightly lighter than others may have theirs. I fail to see your issue. Any child can look at this and understand it's a dinosaur with a shiny black coat.

Mmhmm. Change the hue and it somehow looks darker.

Crows are social and omnivores, these things were solitary and carnivores

We aren´t sure whether microraptorines were social or not.

Why would these things be social anyways? Mustelids and forest-living snakes aren’t social

Neither are particularly comparable to Microraptor.
I don´t think they were social, either, though it is not ruled out at all.

They are far more comparable than crows which is what Microraptor gets compared to (at least in that “iridescence equals diurnal” false dichotomy).

However, I am not supporting a social Microraptor (and if I were actively supporting it, I would not do so because of crows)

i meant that as a design and size
they most likely did have different diet and behavior
