I knew beforehand that I really wanted same-sex-born foals but didn't know how to go about it in a way that wouldn't get me chewed up and spit out by the kind, tolerant fandom.
I decided that I liked this idea best since it allowed both lesbian AND gays to have foals if they desired without the use of MPreg which I'm generally uncomfortable with (unless it's Discord because that makes a saddening amount of sense.)
Basically, here's how it shakes down.
The mirror is in the possession of the two Princesses in Canterlot.
A couple decides they was a baby.
They fill out a form and mail the Princess where she'll review them: their financial situation, living conditions, history checks, etc...
Once you pass you're brought to Canterlot with your lover and are once more asked by Celestia if this is what you want.
The mirror is covered when it's brought out and the two ponies stand before it as it's unveiled.
Now like when trying to conceive, there's not telling how many foals one should expect. You may possibly be met with more than one and gender is never certain. Two stallions can get a filly, two mares can get a colt. With number, it's unsure how it's decided. One theory was love measurement which is heavily doubted.
One cannot measure love.
