For some reason, the way you shaded her hair just feels super-nice, ohmaaaan. Β Your character designs are amazing too, every darn last one of them. Β <3<3<3

Really like the way you do natural hair. The colors and clothing are on point, as usual. Are those cat eyes?

Thanks! I felt like her first design was unique enough but some aspects of it were kind of bland. This reflects her character more. Also, it's funny, because I took a cue from Joel Jurion when I was doing the hair. And those are snake eyes, but they can be normal.Β It's an illusion sheΒ createdΒ to freak people out since she's known also as the Serpent of the Wells.

She does seem more a grounded, think even the evolution of your style lends towards her as a character here. Joel really does stand out in a lot if areas. Serpent of the Wells, sound interesting, the name reminds me of a local folk character, Mama D'Leau.

Thanks again. I think I want my work to have a storybook kind of energy to it, as opposed to feeling like character designs I keep cranking out, and absorbing a bit from my favorite artists has been helping in adding a bit of life to my designs, I think. And when you said Mama D'Leau, it made me think of something I read about a deity called Mami Wata, which I discovered after my initial concept of the character, but liked so much she became kind of an influence for the character.

Yeah, a little bit of action or storytelling go a long way to adding character, it's something I know but rarely think about when drawing. You're looking for the storybook energy, I'm looking for that storybook finish with my desgins ,, it really does add dept to the drawing. Seems like the two characters are the same, or at least have the same roots, very interesting stuff man. How is the story coming along?

FreeMech In reply to Acerbic450 [2015-10-27 03:07:47 +0000 UTC]

It is very possible that they have the same roots, since stories passed on orally such as those usually find themselves travelling around the world. That is an awesome reference. Honestly, I often wish my work could translate with the same weight as images like that. There's a completeness to it that I wouldn't mind emulating.

The story is moving slowly due to me working on a commissioned project at the moment, though I have made a breakthrough in the plot recently. My problem usually is an excess of ideas without the glue to hold them all together, hahaΒ

Nice to hear about the story, progress is progress.Β I have the same extra idea problem, when it comes to world building, but its a good problem to have.

As for the drawing, you should give it a try sometime, I did it today, didn't come out nearly as bad as I thought it would.

For a character concept? You got a story you're cooking up?

And thanks man. That's true, though it doesn't always feel like it.

Yep, I do, more of a side story to what I actually want to do though.
