Description
ArghPosting this for the time spent. Concept is half-assed because it started with the sketch of the subject with no intent on adding anything else.
I like some aspects of the background. Stole something I saw Fiona Staples doing in a video on youtube where she merges the colors and lines and begins to paint over everything. Need to work on leafless trees to get them looking more organic though. They look cartoonishly sick.

Love the pink grass and greenish light. Β An unusual and attractive color scheme.

Oooooohhhh, the choice of a green kind of light permeating everything--including the figure--is so wicked-cool though, I love that! Β And Fiona Staples~ *u* <3

Thank you! I was feeling experimental. I really want to go back and just add a full forest to the background though. I think I will. And get rid of all of the less organic lines in the background.
And yes, Fiona Staples. My sensei/nemesis/art-mother-deity.

I like the character in her face, how long did this take?

I was play around with her colors for an hour or so and the background probably took about two or three hours. So, about four or five, I think. The trees gave me hell. haha
And thanks.

I think I'm going to start actually planning out my drawings or at least a perspective first when I want to do backgrounds from now on.

Nice work dude. I'm a big fan of Fiona Staples' work, so I'm gonna have to check out that video! I didn't know she'd done anything like that. If it makes you feel any better, I also hate drawing trees...

Add that to the very long list of things I hate to and need to practice drawing. haha I don't have much trouble with the trunk, but the branches are the annoying part.
The video is from a comic expo with her drawing a character as a demonstration and answering about her process and Saga while working, so it's not really a tutorial, but it is very informative. I like watching other people draw sometimes. haha
And thanks, man!

You're welcome dude!Β
It's amazing how much you can learn just from watching and getting some insight into people's processes. I'll try to find that later!Β

Yeah, I find myself watching a lot of drawing videos nowadays and they're all pretty helpful in their own way. This is the video . She's drawing a person, but the process is pretty much the same way she does backgrounds according to her.
