Back to the hospital.

I based the Subjectivity Backdoor installment off of having wisdom teeth extracted; multiple shots of selective anesthesia beforehand, a vague memory of the sensation of being under general anesthesia, a congenial chat with the doctors afterward, and heavy physical pain for the next week. I'm interested in what a person becomes when they are intuited through the primary gaze of Medicine, chiefly inasmuch as it reduces every person to a set of "atypical" conditions which have to be corrected (Foucalt).

The surgeon in this comic is someone who, while living within these systems, is doing his best to make them fair and humane, but as only one person there's not much that he can do other than have a good relationship with his patients.
