You can modify their backgrounds, origin, gender, colour palette, race, etc to your own liking, even for closed species.Yes, you are free to modify anything about them after purchase. They belong to you.

I love the colors, the design of the dresses are also adorable. I suggest you think of the facial expressions and were you place the eyes nose etc . I would make their cheeks chubbier too make them cuter. But too each their own way.
The flowers on the pink haired girls legs lost their value since I don't see any shoes. Observe gestures/poses and facial expressions. Also observe how fabric folds to add more detail to your work. I personally think the wing need more detail to pop out. The design on the gray girl wing, what exactly is it ?

I tend to have the problem locating nose and eyes properly for years, even tho I learned human anatomy. I'll try my best to improve it~
