Description This is part of a rather large Egyptian Gods and monsters "portfolio". It isn't complete yet, but I should upload the ones that are done now... Anubis [link] was uploaded quite some time ago. Enjoy the rest of the series.

Very cool interpretation of the sphinx . This reminds me more of a Greek sphinx or a Sumerian one then the Egyptian though . Many very nice details make up this fascinating picture .

I'm sorry but,I have things to point out.

One:The head of the Sphinx is the Pharoa's head, most commonly a mae head, despite the fact the Sphinx is female.
Two:The sphinx does NOT have wings.
Three:The head is completely human.

Sorry if you take this as rude, but I needed to point that out.

One: This is my personal interpretation.
Two: There are many past depictions of the sphinx where there are wings and a female head. This image being the most famous-> [link] And here is a historical one too-> [link]

I rest my case.

Excuse me?? If you are angry at someone, don't take it out on another artist. We aren't meant to be punching bags.

On this one, that face is easily the most striking feature. As stated you captured that cross perfectly, in a way I don't believe I've seen anyone else do anywhere. I'm so used to sphinxs with a full human face (like an oval cut out pasted on a cat's head) that this just made me go "what the..."?

Very well done, wings or no, whichever works. (I think the kind of work it would take to carve wings into the kind of sculpture the Egyptians did, they might have left wings off on purpose, or maybe they just fell off over time. Not a big study in that angle.)

Thank you. The Egyptian sphinx was at times depicted with wings as well, but more often he did not have wings. The Greek version is always female (I went androgynous with this one) and most often has wings, but some times she doesn't have wings either. Such an old myth is up to artistic interpretation because there are just so many different versions out there.

A little random fact is that it is believed that the famous Giza Sphinx, was not a sphinx at all... instead its original lion head was carved into a pharaohs head some time after final construction. Those pharaohs and their need to put their faces on everything!

Ah i see. i just thought this cuz ive never seen an egyptian sphinx with wings and a greek sphinx without lol. well, ya learn something new every day, no?

And yes. they like to look at themselves without the use of a mirror.
