Description
See the fire in the skies!See them devastate the land!
Mars Attacks! The warlord chief commands!
Yay finally have Photoshop again!!
So, as you can tell, it's another song-inspired piece!
Hope you all enjoy it! Will have more, [hopefully] better pieces coming as time goes along, now that i have PS again
Full view is a MUST.. the small version doesn't do it justice at all(i'd go so far as to say the small version sucks compared to the full sized one..grr)
Edit 1 - Made the 'energy' coming out of the attacking planet look more obvious, so now the planet kinda bursts open with it's attack, rather than just have it coming off the bottom
Edit 2 - Changed the planet texture again. fixed the problem with the doubled lightning, as well as a couple other small changes.

Woaaaw ... Okay, that's really gorgeous. I like the way the red and the white light base themselves in the air. And the city is sooo well done.
This goes directly in my favs

Really nice work! A few lighting related probs....but only if you want to be too scrutinizing and stuff. I like it.

thank you!
i'm pretty sure i know what you mean.. i'm hoping to get back to it soon, but i dunno. I do like it how it is, but it'd be nice to work out some of the little problems i did it directly after getting Photoshop again for the first time in a couple years, and didn't fully understand the Dutch interface yet, so it was more of a practice run.
thanks for the comment

Really cool concept, and composition...it fits together nicely on the image.
I agree with the other comment about the coloring being a little off. The colors sure seem burned. The burned saturation kinda hurts my eyes.
Also, I think the lightning could use a little more oomph, it seems dull to me. Translucent even...if anything, I would think it should pop out?

I love the concept of this and how you've done it.
The explosion coming from the planet looks great and city looks like it's in real danger.

ooookay, interesting concept and use of brushes, unfortunately the elements are poorly initiated.
you need to control the lightning when you create them using the clouds filter like that. there are two dual sets of lightning bolts that should be removed or redone. the one in the left side of where the planet opens, and then on the right side there is a dual set also. they detract from the image.
the planet texture is very lowres, or at least it appears so, it is not sharp like the rest of the image.
*sigh* the more I look at it the more flaws I see. The buildings on the right side of the image: the FIRST skyscraper on the right side of the image is cut out poorly. Also some of its window reflections are way outside of their color values also detracting from the image.
for a more dynamic approach with your elemental brushes (the red, yellow and orange streaks) you should change their layer's blend mode to something else like color/linear burn or dodge , but not normal or multiply
again, nice concept there just needs to be some more quality control here

glad you liked the concept
yeah i noticed that and i actually thought i fixed the lightning.. anyways, fixed now.
I changed the texture a bit, look better like this, or the other way? I was fairly certain it was high enough resolution(both this one and the old one) but guess it didn't turn out as well as hoped.
trimmed up the building, better now?
I changed some of the elemental brushes blending modes. some of them just didn't look right, no matter how i did it, so i left them, while i changed others.
so hopefully it looks a little better at least
thanks for the critique

also, maybe as a different submission or just for your own benefit, play around with different cropped versions of this image.

You're right - full view is a must. Excellent detail throughout. While the colours give clear armageddon overtones, I'd have enjoyed a bit more evidence of actual destruction. Eye-catching work.
