UCR is an open campus. Which means anyone can wander into the commons area and speak their mind.Great right? "Open" campus. Sounds nice. Sounds free.
It sucks! I don't like walking through the commons area anymore because I'm afraid of being assaulted by any number of jackasses trying to get me to sign something, or buy something, or convert me to something. I should not be afraid of my own campus!
Granted, the sororities and fraternities are part of any college experience. But I still hate them.
Some of us just want to go to class.
Different format this time. This wasn't fitting right in a strip format, and since we've had a few page-format submissions that worked ok in print, I thought I'd try it as well.

You know, both the campus in my neighborhood have a guy just like your sign carrying old man.
They give thundering brimstone sermons from what is usually the lowest place around, and are pretty much ignored by all....Expect those that make fun of them

I can sympathise over the crazy religious man problem. I'm Roman Catholic myself and a lot of other Christians, even other Catholics really strike me as simply putting their personal opinions in a religious frame. I have no problem with homosexual people myself.
The others, less so. I rarely get invited to parties of any real sort, an IT uni is not much of a partying place and we rarely get petitions that are anything but a joke.

I hate those guys..."Open" campus can sometimes be okay...but when they march inside your apartment just because they say your door "open" (I usually leave my door open, but not anymore) thats crossing the line. Hell no! Oh! and nice touch with the old man who is against gay/lesbians. He almost got beat up by a mob...wow...

Been there, done that. One time that really got to me, this guy was trying to petition to stop conducting stem cell research on my campus. I have a cousin and a friend with diabetes and another friend with parkinson's. Excuuuuuse me for getting a bit defensive! (The cells in question came from umbilical cords in all likelihood anyway. And even if they came from embryos, they're ones that were going to be thrown in the GARBAGE. Hmm, throw them in the trash or use them to save lives... tough choice!)

Not only does college educate your mind...it also gives your reflexes a work out in ducking, flinching, and running past all those petition signers/pledge week recruiters/panhandlers/religious converters/etc...
That's how running backs and receivers for the football team get recruited.

you know, totally understand. that's how it is when walking through the northern quad at UCD....mauled by people and Calprig and students for stuff and petitions and religious people telling you believe in their god or be punished, etc....or protesters being idiots and marching out and obstructing everyone from going to class because they feel gypped on their benefits for working at a place that is their choice to work at and trying to make everyone feel guilty about it but screwing up their chances of getting another talk with the chancellor because they screwed up the first time and wouldn't let him talk at all and decided to just stand there and protest in the middle of his talk even when he was going to address their issue.

yes calprig people are....they don't take no for an answer, though if you know more about the subject than they do (or pretend you know more) they tend to freeze and have to rethink the approach....that's the time you can run awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
