Thank you! I followed some tutorial on using a special filter to generate the rain. I'd link it but it's been so long since I did this piece. xD

Oh wow, the attention to detail here is really nice. I especially love the effect of the rain and the glowing stone, it is a great effect. Does this picture have any sort of significant meaning? I'd love to hear the story behind it.

Thank you for your comment! And yes, this is quite a story to tell. I'm going to go off the assumption that you haven't played Spiral Knights, which is where this began.
The game first came out April 2011 iirc. In SK, you play as a knight, and you can wield various weapons to fight monsters in the Clockworks (essentially the dungeons of the game). All of the weapons in-game are categorized as a sword, a gun, or a bomb. In general, bombs often exploded in a circular radius, or spread a circular cloud of mist that would afflict monsters with statuses like fire, stun, and poison. Example of how a typical bomb would work: [blast radius] [blast explosion] They were often considered the weakest category of weapons in the game, as most of them don't have much of an offensive presence and are the hardest weapons to use. However, bombers excelled in crowd control and supporting their squishy sword users and gunners.
But the only notable exception to the low power, high crowd control method was the Radiant Sun Shards (depicted as the glowing rock that the knight is holding in my picture). Instead of exploding in a circular fashion, 8 shards would shoot out from the blast center, following the points on a compass. [link] Not only was this a great long range option (it probably had 2-3 times the range of the first bomb I linked), but if you used it a certain way, you could land all 8 shards on a single enemy, dealing massive amounts of damage that could compete with the high-power guns and swords. It was a bomber's best friend, and was great for hitting long range switches and long range enemies if you decided to bomb solo in the clockworks. I really loved this bomb, and it's what made it worth it for me to go full bomber.
Then everything changed for the worse in summer of 2012. Three Rings (the creators of SK, commonly referred to as OOO) announced that they were going to change the way RSS worked. Their claim was that the bomb was not bomb-like enough, since it could snipe faraway enemies and could do massive damage to a single enemy. Understandably, this made a lot of the members of the bombing community very nervous, especially those who had paid a lot of extra money to get good Unique Variants on their RSSs to make them function more effectively. Unique Variants are random augments that you can get for any weapon or armor piece, but they are fairly expensive and completely randomized, so you'll likely have to pay a lot to get a good UV on a single weapon or armor piece.
When the changes arrives on 8/8/12, hate ensued. The new RSS was a disaster. The damage output was mediocre at best, the range absolutely sucks, the sequence of explosions was slow, and worst of all, the bomb itself was prone to glitching and not doing any damage at all. Not only that, but the original pretty green-blue bomb was recolored into... ew... The only compensation that the original owners of the RSS received was a UV ticket. Yeah. Really helpful for those who spent a lot of money on UVs for the original bomb that they liked. A lot of bombers, myself included, sold off their RSSs. It got nerfed into oblivion and it wasn't worth it anymore. :C
About a year after the RSS nerf, I made this picture as a little memorial of what the RSS used to be, and what it stood for among the bombing community.
To this day, OOO has made no attempts to bring the bombs in line with the other weapon classes, as they just seem to like buffing anything but bombs (cough Acheron cough). I can really only hope that they one day realize that their weapon balance sucks, but I felt like OOO was a lost cause long ago. The game honestly just sucks now.
And thank you for taking the time to read this long post! This is just something that really upset me at the time, but I'm happy to share the story with anyone who's willing to listen.

Bombs are total trash these days, sadly enough. I really with it was a viable option but it's not. The only bomb worth using is the shivermist, and even then only when you're in a squad.
I used to own one of these though, back before the nerf, and I hated it. I was terrible with the thing. I like how it has a little persistence now, but your argument is most certainly valid.
And yeah, Acheron is ludicrously strong. I love it though :V

I'd definitely say that bombs are usable - I really like the Electron Vortex, Dark Retribution, and Dark Briar Barrage, and use them all the time in the clockworks. I honestly think the problem is that swords and guns are stupidly strong, and people would generally pick them over bombs. Here's hoping a bomber update is on the horizon, but considering it's OOO, probably not going to happen. *shrug*

Oh, this game definitely needs a bomber update. It's sad that actual content has slowed down so much over the past few updates, in favour of mediocre-looking vanity gear. The bombs you mentioned are great when compared to other bombs, but almost directly inferior to many swords or guns outside a few niche situations. If you can use them right, more power to you, but they just don't seem to be worth the trouble for me. Bombers really need a new edge to make them useful again, something that is not mass status effects.

Definitely an interesting story, and as a long time Bomber I am sad to hear of this debacle with the Radiant Sun Shards, I remember someone talking about it a while back but I didn't pay much mind to it since I generally stuck with the Nitronome, and other things people would yell at me not to get or use
and it sucks that Bombers get absolutely nothing in the way of new weapons or armor, and not even a shield that's bomber styled
but alas OOO seems to have a love of gun and sword reskins
and you can definitely tell they don't care about bombers because in the wiki the bombastic suit used to be called the regretful bomber set
granted that's what made me get that set and use it even today, but no other set has such a name that makes you question why it's even in the game

Oh, that's an interesting tidbit on the Bombastic set, never knew that.
But yeah it's a shame that OOO has never seemed to care about bombers. Really, bombs needed an update more than the guns, and well. That got delayed pretty bad. ):

Heh, that's quite alright. I don't -completely- hate the new shards.
Although I wish OOO included both shard types into the game instead of replacing the weapons we already have :/
