Description Manticores are my faaaavorite! This picture isn't though... it's the first drawing I did of the four, and now it's my least favorite in the monster series. The pose is boring and I was still getting the hang of doing certain things in Illustrator.

I have a feeling this is actually Tentigo... I drew it with the character in mind more than the species.

This might not be your favorite in the series, but it still looks mighty well done. I wouldn't call the pose boring; rather it seems appropriate for a creature with the face of a handsome human and entrancing eyes to be in a "come hither" position.
But... talented artists are often most critical on themselves.

The eyes scare me more than anything, woah...
I love that this picture could get an instant reaction out of me. And all those spikes--how patient you must have been!

The spikes took foreeeeeever. T_T I'm sure there's some smarter way I could have done them, but I was stupid and did them all individually.

Thank you very much for the comment and +fave! <3

Anytime!
I would have C+P'd those things, then done some transformations...but I'm sure it wouldn't have turned out as nice, then, lol.

I've never been very comfortable with Illustrator, but I -love- the effects it produces, so I'm learning slowly... I think there's some improvement between this series of monster pieces; manticore was first, tikbalang second, selkie third and wendigo fourth, and I like to think there's an upward curve of quality along those lines.

*stays with photoshop for her fake!vectors* It's quite the habit to break.
Either way, it's quite the series!

I wonder where I got the idea that Manticore had a man's head, bulls body and horns, lions legs and a scorpion tail?

The scorpion tail is pretty common- basically that tail and the "spike-shooting" tail are interchangeable. They're depicted with horns fairly often as well, and they always have the face of a man. Not sure where you got the bull's body though!

someone's mythos SOMEWHERE. Probably the same place I got it stuck in my head that Harpies have specifically an owl's body and a hag's head.
