This made me think of Daoloth, a Great Old One in Ramsey Camobell's mythos story "The Render of the Viels". The premise is that our senses have evolved to distort things to hide the innate hideousness of all. Daoloth , if summoned & invoked properly, will remove said innate hideousness.
Daoloth must be summoned in the dark, as his form is so wildly complex that gazing on it causes insanity. His images have to be inaccurate so as to not cause the viewer to go mad. As it is, said images look like nothing that can be alive , but can play tricks on the viewers mind.
