ENGLISH:

Palanga is nowadays a turistic coastal city in the Baltic sea. Back in the XIII century it was a big pagan trade cente. Its old inhabitants were curonians, while in the XIII century it was a Lithuanian stronghold and one of the few thing between the complete fall of the shoreline into christian hands. Between the hammer and the anvil of the order of Livonia in the North and the Teutonic Order in the South, Palanga seen a lot of wars and devastations. In this drawing, a young child is introduced by his father into the art of fencing. His first opponent, a scarecrow dressed with past property of the Teutonic Order, now trophies of war: yet his father's helm is still too large and his sword too heavy to handle.

The clothing of the three lithuanian characters is based on reenactments, while the sword and the helm are based on archaeological evidence from curionians warriors tombs. The walls and the tower are based on speculative reconstructions.

Oggi Palanga è una città turistica sulle coste del mar Baltico.
Nel XIII secolo fu una grande centro commerciale e navale pagano. I suoi vecchi abitanti appartenevano alla tribù dei curoni, mentre nel XIII secolo fu una fortezza lituana, una delle poche cose a contrapporsi alla conquista cristiana dell'intera costa del mar Baltico. Stretta tra l'incudine e il martello dell'Ordine di Livonia a nord a dell'Ordine Teutonico a sud, Palanga fu teatro di feroci combattimenti fino al XV secolo. In questo disegno, un bambino viene introdotto dal padre nelle arti della scherma. Il suo avversario, uno spaventapasseri vestito con vesti e armi di proprietà dell'Ordine Teutonico, ora trofei di guerra: ma ancora l'elmo del padre è troppo largo e la sua spada troppo pesante.

Gli abiti dei tre lituani sono basati su reenactments, mentre la spada e l'elmo del padre sono basati su ritrovamenti archeologici nelle tombe di guerrieri curoni. Le mura e la torre sono basate su ricostruzioni speculative.
