Description
first submission for the Lily and James challenge I borrowed! let the nerd-dom begin!````````
"Slytherin?"
One of the boys in the compartment, who had shown no interest at all in Lily or Snape until that point, looked around at the word, and Harry, whose attention had been focused entirely on the two beside the window, saw his father: slight, black-haired like Snape, but with the indefinable air of having been well-cared-for, even adored, that Snape so conspicuously lacked.
" Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" James asked the boy lounging on the seats opposite him, and with a jolt, Harry realized it was Sirius. Sirius did not smile.
" My whole family have been in Slytherin," he said.
" Blimey," said James, "and I thought you seemed all right!"
Sirius grinned.
"Maybe I'll break the tradition. Where are you heading, if you've got the choice?"
James lifted an invisible sword.
" 'Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart!' Like my dad."
Snape made a small, disparaging noise. James turned on him.
"Got a problem with that?"
"No," said Snape, though his slight sneer said otherwise. " If you'd rather be brawny than brainy--"
"Where're you hoping to go, seeing as you're neither?" interjected Sirius.
James roared with laughter. Lily sat up, rather flushed, and looked from James to Sirius in dislike.
" Come on, Severus, let's find another compartment."
"Oooooo..."
James and Sirius imitated her lofty voice; James tried to trip Snape as he passed.
"See ya, Snivellus!" a voice called, as the compartment door slammed....
`````````
I love this part. James and Sirius were such gits, lol
anyway, there you have it!
LOL!!!!
thats soooooo funny! it reminds me of a makani comic. it would be something like:
James - "You're a leeeewser."
Snape - "Well, at least im not a corpse. Like you will be in about seven years."
Terrific expressions. Wish they were wearing canon uniforms instead of film ones, though, because if they were in canon uniforms it could be an image from the book.
:] thanks, but exactly what are "canon" uniforms? is it ever really explained? anyway, i like the film uniforms
In the books their uniforms are plain black robes - usually with nothing under them except undies, but at one point on the train we see them pull them on over their Muggle clothes - and black, pointed hats. Rowling's own drawings show the robes to be very plain in shape, with long sleeves, round necks and no visible openings - something like a very severe nightdress, or a monk's habit without a hood. There are pockets in there somewhere.
The big mystery is how they can tell what house someone is in at a glance, since in the books they very clearly *don't* wear shirts, ties etc under the robes, and JK's drawings show no sign of embroidered badges either. Possibly there is house-coloured piping on the edge of the neck or pockets, although if so it must be added by house elves once they are Sorted.
hmm....i have seen that. but i always imagined that the canon robes were something of a cross between that and the movie robes, where they wouldnt be wearing a vest, white collared shirt, and tie per say, but rather a black set of robes similar to what snape wears in the movies that has a black vest attached and their house crest would be on that vest. and whatever pants they fancied i suppose. actually, i think its really open to personal interpretation because its not really specified in the books except to say that they wear black robes. the robes arent described at all, and i think JK did that on purpose because she knew when her readers read "robes" they would all imagine something different.
It's specified they're not wearing trousers - when the Marauders hold Severus upside down he has nothing under his robes except underpants. That may be because it's June - he might wear trousers in the winter - but if so they clearly aren't readily visible, since robes alone are sufficient to make him decent. Ergo, the robes are more or less like a monk's habit and don't include trousers as such, except possibly as winter insulation.
We also know there are no trousers or waistcoat (not a vest in Britain - a vest here is a white string thing you wear next to your skin) involved, because when they are on the train the students are able to pull their uniform robes on over the top of their Muggle clothing without taking any of the Muggle clothing off first. And they all wear pointed hats, apparently all the time.
Snape's adult robes in canon are nothing like the ones in the films, either. He wears billowing robes plus an indoor cloak, and no shirt - not one with long sleeves, at any rate. We know this because it is sufficient for him to roll up the sleeve of his robe in order to show his bare forearm. Both JKR's drawings of him show him wearing a cloak which has a high "Dracula" collar, which appears to be based on a coat John Nettleship had when JKR knew him.
If we ignore Rowling's drawings then the student robes may include an embroidered patch - it would certainly make sense for them to do so - and some sort of tailoring over the chest; but not anything which would prevent them from being slipped on over T-shirt and jeans or, conversely, worn with nothing except undies.
However the student robes look, I'm pretty sure JK means Snape's adult robes to be much the same - by dressing him in black she's making the point that he's still a schoolboy at heart.
thank you!!!! Especially since young snape is sooooo hard to draw. Is it just me, or when you imagine young snape dont you just imagine alan rickman's face on an eleven year old's body?
Haha! I have so many Snapes running around in my head; I never know what he'll end up looking like when I read/write/draw him. I think yours is in my top ten for sure. He really is hard to draw. The description of his features don't lend themselves to childhood so when it's really nailed down, it's oh so good! (That inky hair is just joyous!)
Seriously though, I must admit, yes, a tiny Alan Rickman Snapeling would be just perfect!
