Description
Typography assignment:Design nine 6x6" compositions using one letter, one number and one shape in each. The number and letter must be different for each composition, while the shape remains the same. All of the letters must be in the same type face and all of the numbers must be in a different type face. They must be grayscale - a dark value, a middle value and a light value - with one color. The objective is to see letterforms purely as compositional forms, rather than communicative symbols.
My shape is a circle.
The font I chose for my letters is Adobe Caslon Pro.
The font I chose for my numbers is Century Gothic.
(These panels are not arranged in any particular order.)

It sounds like you had pretty specific requirements, yet you managed to make a lot of different and interesting compositions with the same fundamental concept. Also, even though you say it is random, the placement of each square works well, and the piece in its entirety is balanced. I like how the two in the bottom left corner almost sync together across the boundary.

So, what program do you use for these? I'm hoping an Adobe one, if you're using Caslon Pro, and I'm hoping it's InDesign; I'm taking a class on that program, and now I'm itching to try something like this!

I totally tried my own novice hand at this. I have no idea what techniques or specific measurements, etc. go into these sorts of things, but I like my little achievement nonetheless. Purple . Completely inspired by yours!
