Clyde could have had a more interesting name, but it was fitting for the Lady of the Tree to name him.First off, the Lady of the Tree is the queen of Zashi, the forest kingdom. During the calamity she had been reading in front of the giant tree in the middle of the kingdom. As the Calamities effects happened so sudden, she became part of the tree, along with her book.
Clyde showed up a few days later, climbing to the top of the tree, coiling around it all the while. The dragon was particularly fond of the fruit in the top of the new tree, and thus ate it freely. Apparently Clyde chose the tree as a territorial fashion, and automatically protects her from anything that comes close to the tree itself, and her.
After a long while, Clyde eventually became aware that a woman was part of the tree, and became very quizzical about it. He didn't harm her, he just treated her as if she was part of it. Eventually Clyde saw the girl as more than just a part of the tree, and took the idea that she was some form of deity, much like the people of Zashi did. Clyde now protects the tree for more than just the fruit.
He does really like that fruit though.

Lol. A special kind that grow on the tree. Essentially their thick skinned balloon like bulbs with a ridiculously sour yellow fluid in them. The thing is so juicy, the seeds literally float.
