Description
Done over 3 years ago, this was my first quality carving. I can't name all the woods used as he was made from pieces in the scrap bin and many of the woods were taken from knots and crotch wood so the colors are very different than typicaly. Sorry for the photo quality. He sold very fast and I didn't get a better photo.Intarsia is a carving method often called painting with wood. I don't use paint or stain just many species of wood to get a 3D portrait.

Nice, but every time. I don't know how to call it. it's not inlay or marquetry.

Yes I know, but this need new name. Intarsia have to be glued to surface. Word intarsia is originally from arabic word means decorating something with wood, ivory etc.

Interesting idea, i've never heard of Intarsia, what a marvelous way to work, you must get the joy of mooching through wood to find the piece you need.
