The trick is not to do it all at once. I apply a small field of dots then move on to another art piece until I feel like going back to it. This way it doesn't become too maddening.

I love the effect though, much more smooth than hachuring.

It's easier to get a smooth graduation in tone with this method. (at least with me)

I've had great results with it but by the time I remember to try it the page is covered with hachuring. I want to give it a go again and try for a bit of optical mixing of colours.
