Description
Guess who got SAI?It's an experiment, something I colored on MS Paint then added special effects to with SAI. I'm... Well, I'm not disappointed, per se, but... Let's just say I've got a long way to go with understanding that program.
Anyways, ohayo means "Good morning" in the Japanese language. It is also my pathetic attempt at a title. I guess I'm not putting in 100% on this 'cause I probably put, like, 47% effort into the picture itself. I'll keep working on it, though, because I do like the lineart and want to do more with it. (Do you want to give it a spin?
Anyways, thanks for taking a look, and please enjoy, as always.
P.S. This lovely young lady is ©

Anyway, I love the picture, it's amazing, as always Especailly all the details and folds in her robe, it all just fits together really nicely
And congratulations on getting SAI!

Very nice Froot, I like the expression on her face, lol. Someone had quite the rough night.
Anyways, good luck learning Sai, believe me, learning the new programs is always tough, but it's gotta be easier than when I started out with GIMP, believe me when I say that it takes time to learn the way around it. Once you manage to harness the power of a program, though, the quality just screams "Ah, better!".
The only other thing I'm noticing is that the lines look a bit pixilated, I'm not sure if that's intentional or not, and that the whole thing is meant to be blocky, but if that's the case, then it's just my teacher's advise of "less lines is better" getting to me xD

Rough night indeed
Tell me, how is GIMP? I've heard a lot about it.
I guess SAI's just like with Paint.NET; I gotta keep practicing. I mean, compared to Paint.NET, it's reeeaaally complicated.
As for the pixels... Since this was originally a sketch, it was kind of hard to convert it without leaving all the extra lines out. Hopefully, the finished piece will look a lot better. But I guess it depends on how I feel that day

Out of all the programs I've used, Gimp is both the most powerful and hardest to use of all I've got (Note that I neither have nor have used the user-friendly, but powerful Photoshop). It takes a lot of time to learn the ropes, but once you do, using Gimp is easy and gives the best results, and is expandable (it's open source software, so anyone can mess around with the source code).
I'm sure it is, Paint.net is really simplistic, but it works well for a lot of things. That's actually the program I use for lineart because I have yet to figure out how to do it right in Gimp, and I actually really like the look of it.
Are you just dump-bucketing the pencil then? Anyways, I know what you mean, all of my stuff start as sketches, but I never shade them because I know I'm gonna go in and make them lineart later on. You just need to look for the fold sections and be ready to look for where to shade

Photoshop... Is unattainable for this low profit artist
But you make Gimp sound so nice... I'd love to download it, if I can just find out where. Sounds like a kind of program I'd be interested in.
But you know what I really need? One of those famous Wack'em or Wacom tablets or whatever. They seem really nice, and I've done a bit of research on them, but the cheapest one I could find that I actually want to use (Smail sized Intuos) is about $300... Yeah, there's no way.
I made the mistake of shading my sketches and they're a real pain to clean up. Then there's the fact that only rarely do I even get the chance to scan them... Sigh. I need funding

Lol, don't we all?
Well, you can get gimp at www.gimp.org, it's open-source and won't cost you a dime
And yeah, a Wacom tablet would be amazing. Actually, I saw them at Staples the other day, and they were around $150 - $250 if I recall correctly. Bamboo tablets are usually inexpensive for a tablet, but still good. The only problem with them is that there's a pretty steep learning curve to them. But once you learn, the results are phenomenal.
Ah, I see. Well, just be sure to keep that in mind, and if there's a sketch you REALLY like, then take it and tape it to the window while the sun is still out, and tape down another piece of paper over it, and you can trace over the drawing so that it's ready for converting into Lineart. Or you could use a lightbox, take your pic, lol.

Let's start the Froot Fund. Now taking donations.
Thanks! I'll check out the site. Always open to new program suggestions!
$150? Wow... That's something I might be able to afford. I hadn't even thought about getting any other kind of tablet, but now that you mention Bamboo... I'm a quick learner (after a while) so I just might be able to!
So many tips I hadn't thought of that, either! I'll totally do that. It just seems so obvious now. I might even be able to take a picture of my drawings with my webcam... Thanks, Twi!

Not a prob! But if you're going to take pictures with the webcam, just make sure you have a good angle on it, and you should be fine.
And don't feel bad, it's taken me a good year to figure all of this stuff out, some of it I'm still new to myself.
