Description
Without tropes we couldn't have clear genres such as Action movies and Horror movies. While the cliches can tank a shit-show instantly or make it more endearing and or more representative of the genre. I'd like to quickly discuss a fairly well known action trope (and SCII is filled with them) in particular. It's the one where a weapon fires a shit-ton of ammunition that for lack of a better description aren't portrayed with emotion or very little. Then a single final shot is portrayed to be a super bullet, Bat-bullet, Captain Bullet... you get the idea,
So you have Jim, in the video... I hope you already watched or remember, getting the point across that Dr. Fuckson is mortally wounded. And they get the normal sound and little emotional weight, more mechanical if you will. Right after is when the trope shows up. All of a sudden the run of the mill assault rifle becomes a fucking howitzer in sound and power, which a hack can fuck up really bad. If we're emotionally invested, we can add a lot to it and the effect is quite nice. If say, it was Celine Dion dying in the same scene, we (be on my side bros) are on the other side of feeling emotion with the impactful death.
We find it funny that the film thought we'd follow it down that path and it's very off putting. What I like and most likely they HAD to do here is not as much convey the sadness of Dr. SpreadEagle and instead keeps us invested by the sadness and way too familiar event happening again to Jim Raynor when it comes to zerg, love and loss. Not all that different and yes Jim losing another fuck buddy to E.T. is a trope as well. SCII is infested with them, but there in lies the charm in most cases.
The final nail in the coffin nailed with THOR'S HAMMER!
