haha thats actually a common misconception. swords are supposed to be held as lightly as possible until the strike is about make contact (think Bruce Lee). if you grip the sword tightly all the time your strikes will be much slower, less accurate, not has powerful, and you will waste energy.
....and i think it looks cooler this way hahahhahaha

I dont know about bruce lee's own style, but I know a little bit wing chun/tsun/zunwhatever . sure when hitting something your biceps must not interfere too much until impact, but is that true for pulling the sword as well ? hmm I would love to know that from martial arts perspective P: you practice combat ? or was it picture related interest ?
