Description
is without a doubt one of the best inkers I have seen on DA. Here are some Flats made of this most epic piece he recently uploaded. Although he himself is also an OUTSTANDING colorist and has his colored version I still asked if I could upload these flats for others to render and he gave his blessing. If you decide to use these flats please be sure to credit all the other artists involved.Orignal Art by the comic icon Check out his webstore also for awesome prints and books and my personal favorite, the Fairy Tales Calender's at www.jscottcampbellstore.com/

First off, great work. Is this possible in a higher resolution - completely understand if it's not - just that I would like to color it and print it 50x25, so was wondering.

Sorry, I used the same size as what the inker had used. I didn't change any dimensions myself. To be honest though, the size of this beast is pretty damn big already. You shouldn't have a problem printing it at that size. Unless you're talking feet instead of inches, lol. Then that could be an issue and I would ask what the hell would you need a frickin billboard of this picture for, LOL.

Oh, I dont really understand pixels to print size all that well. Spoke to my printer later and he set me straight though. Thanks for the reply. I will color this and credit you accordingly.

Ha ha, I've been waiting for you to find these. Even if they're Marvel it is still a pretty epic piece.
Gonna have to recolor the flats for rendering though since I decided to just go with the true colors instead of the darkest shade.
Make sure you check out those Hulk flats also. Would LOVE to see what you do with that one also.

Not yet, but Venom used to be a favorite when I read Marvel back in the day so I have a special place for him. I'm in flatting mode right now so let me see if I find a good one to do.

which version you gonna' attempt, the midnight blue eddie brock classic, the purple (and sucky one in my view) one in ultimate spiderman or the basic white on black?

I started one and it is classic Eddie Brock that I know of. At least I'm coloring him that way. That's really the only Venom I know. I know he's a soldier now or some shit but I've never read those. Quit in the late 90's and when I came back to comics it was DC that grabbed me more.

he gone through so much shit tbh, his cancer that symbiote suppressed came back, he was almost tempted by a phantom of his former venom suit (or so I believe) to kill May Parker during the period where Spidey revealed his identitiy to the world in the civil war comics (it's okay he got it back) but managed not to kill anyone. He got rid of the cancer with unintentional help from Dr.Light (villain primarily)by somehow turning the residual cells left from venom in his body into positive reacting cells that eventually made him - to his surprise - cured and made him spawn his own white clad symbiote suit with the black spider symbol instead of the reverse white on black. And became anathema, or a very literal cure to the original suits venomous nature and biology declaring himself "Anti-Venom" for that purpose. He lived a relatively short life since then, in the "Another way to die" series but the extent of his powers became overpowered, becoming bullet-proof, fire-proof (unlike all the other symbiote suits) sonic-proof, even at dead-bang range with a fully-loaded shotgun the punisher (whose a fair shot) still didn't have any permanent effect. After that they had the whole spider city series, where everyone in new york gained spidermans powers making web-head feel all insecure for awhile before he manned up, using Eddies antibodies as a cure for all the infected citizen, but also giving MJ Spidey powers if I remember right (even web shooting spinnerets, not fair). After he basically gave up the the suit to use it to save the city, as far as I know he snapped, having been exposed to the venom suit after his own was almost pealed from his body by the previous symbiote wield Mac Morgan (aka Spideys old enemy the Scorpion) in his stint with Ozborns reincarnation of the Thunderbolts (don't ask) using a viral payload to nearly kill him. He pulled out of that one with the help of Spidey which he was for once almost friends with, although he almost cured Spidey of his powers which e procured from the radioactive bite, Spidey managing only at the last minute to convince him not too, but as a result suffering a sort of "null effect" where whenever he came too close to the Anti-venom suit his powers would drop to nothing on close proximity alone. Later on after Mac Morgan as far as I know Flash Thompson (Spideys old highschool bully) inheritted the venom suit through millitary means forming part of a program meant to use the suits powers for more covert operations, whilst maintaining a 48 hour usage limit at a time before the symbiote got a chance to permanent bond with it's host (yeah, didn't get that either). Flash as far as I know isn't really handling it even half as well as Eddie did, and certainly has no blood feud with Peter, an alcoholic and having lost both legs after saving a fellow soldier in combat he's practically dependant on the suit just to give him back his normality let alone the super-heroic gifts he's always wished he could have had alongside his idol Spiderman (enter ironic twist here). He's even managed to spawn another symbiote called "mania" since the last time I checked. Eddie went on the warpath on symbiotes btw, exterminating them using his in-depth and hard won knowledge of their weakness. He's killed Hybrid, Shriek or Scream (I forget which, the female one with yellow and red symbiote coloration) and every lesser symbiote you can really think of. He tried to get to Venom but was webbed and almost bonded, Flash Thompson managed to will/lie the smybiote back to him, but subsequently left Eddie behind for Crime Master (or whatever he calls himself) to bond him secretly with Toxin, the 1000th Symbiote in Venom's genetic line after Carnage. Knowing Eddie and his own genetics he made the toxin suit hulk out, but blinded by rage for the venom suit by toxin's own natural predisposition for any genetic relative (like all symbiotes have or so they explain) sufffered from the same tactical flaw as when he fought Spidey all these years sadly never matching a cool and calm intellect with it's super-human strength, just barely allowing the symbiote suit, which was chemically neutered at this point to allow Flash Thompson, more control over it (which was sad). Haven't checked anything else recently, but wiki is probably more accurate and better at summarizing. Have fun

Dumb question, but what does the term Flats mean exactly?
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
FrostDusk In reply to Boomdozer [2014-06-17 21:56:25 +0000 UTC]
Flats means the flat colors of a comic. No shading or lighting added. Much like an old comic book was colored. The colors are placed on a different layer than the line art so that the person who "render's" the flats (gives them shading, lighting, textures, effects, etc.) can select them individually and work with each flat color.
Hope I explained that clear enough. I can ramble on sometimes, lol.

Flats are the basic colors, with no variation. No light, no shadows, nothing that makes the colors seem life like.
