alright, here's a little more background info to enjoy the piece - normally i'd prefer to leave a piece open to interpretation, but for this piece i have a very specific story i'd like to share.

symbolism behind the red ribbon: [original source here ]

legend has it [chinese and japanese, funny they don't seem to have this in korea] the gods tie an invisible red string around the ankles of men and women who are destined to be soulmates and one day marry each other. [variations include the string being tied around the ring or pinky finger]

An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.

now the behind story for making this piece:

i came to the USA on a study abroad program, and during my year i met a boy. we started dating although we knew that when my year abroad ended, so would we.

the year was great, but during the whole of that year i coudln't help but feel anxiety because i knew one day this would all end. that, combined with the album separation anxiety by Nell [a korean band, they're the best] compelled me to make this piece.
