Description The next day we were busy scheduling everything we'd be able to do at the show along with showing the girls in general. We headed out of the hotel early in the morning and ate at a breakfast diner and admired the culture all around us. After that we headed to the mountains to hike, as the dogs were still working dogs no matter where we were and needed to be exercised, so on we went. The dogs had been increasingly restless as we drove up the dirt road to the trailhead, the dirt muddy from the previous night's rain, and the water from puddles splashing up against the back window made Liza bark and stare nervously at David, who rubbed be hind her ear. Lola was less noisy but stared out the windows with her tail up and eyes focused on the woods, looking for any sign of animal life, and started every time a deer or another creature was startled by the sound of the car. When we got out the dogs were clipped on to their leashes and off we started, up the incredibly steep mountainside. The flowers were in full bloom, and were especially beautiful this morning as they sparkled with rain. The entire side of the mountain that was cast in the morning sun sparkled and winked at us with celestial beauty, it felt like a dream. The girls couldn't care less about the flowers and rushed on ahead, sniffing under as many features of the wild as the could, bushes, rocks, fallen trees and the like. We stopped at a river to let the dogs drink and watched a single pale yellow butterfly land squarely on Liza's nose. Not being a high prey drive personality, but rather a curious one, Liza stood perfectly still, her eyes crossed as she stared at the velvet-winged insect. David fumbled as quickly as he could before the moment was over and pulled out a small camera, and took around three shots before Liza's eyes rolled back in her head and her nose wrinkled. She sneezed mightily and the butterfly startled and fluttered away, both dog's eyes following it as it disappeared is we walked, both the girls were showing signs of fatigue, so we sat down and gave each a milkbone from a ziplock bag I'd been carrying with us in my bag. We began again, going further on the loop and we crossed into a deeply wooded, steep area and walked along the edge of a small wooded mountainside, with a view that faded into green as the trees blocked our view of the bottom of the mountain.

We looked ahead, stopping occasionally to snap photos of the wildflowers that grew in fewer quantities than they had in the meadow at the mountain's base. Suddenly we heard a snap and a rumble from ahead of us, and wide-eyed watched as a large brown animal pushed it's way through the bush, grunting and snorting. The moose made it's way across the lower section of the hill, directly below the ridge we were walking on, the dogs dead silent, ears erect and tails up, looking directly at the animal, their eyes sparkling with long forgotten instinct that still ran through their veins. The moose shook it's enormous rack and kept on walking, not noticing us or most likely ignoring us, and melted back into the woods from which he came, the silent king of the mountain. we hurried on for fear that one of the dogs would bark, as we both knew that moose, and especially male moose, were extremely dangerous if they felt threatened, or if they felt their territory was threatened. We ran along the muddy path, careful not to slip and fall down the hill but also doing or best to but as much distance between us and the moose as we could. We reached the clearing and again were greeted by the sparkling meadow of wildflowers, safe at last. When we reached the car, still muddy and wet, I went around back and pulled out two dog towels, dried off each dog and lay down a plastic cover on the back seat, loading the dogs up and getting back into the front seat, awaiting the adventures we would experience next in Sweden as we drove away from the mountain, back into town and back towards whatever destiny awaited us at the World Dogs Show.

The dogs in this picture are, listed from left to right:
M!K's Red Pride and Passion "Liza"
M!K's Stepping Through Snow "Anouk"
ReSK Dancing on Fire " Flame Dance"
