Description

Hihi everyone!
I would like to introduce you to Kruno, The Keeper of Fireflies and Knowledge!

They are a Judge character I have made for

run by my beloved Glowy-Druglord

I am one of the five prize-givers of the OCT, and am absolutely thrilled to see this
tournament officially up and running!
If you are at all interested in joining the OCT, don't hesitate to!
Do have a swell day, everyone!

Name: Kruno

Alias: The Keeper of Fireflies/The Keeper of Knowledge

Species: Kyrkogrim

Sex: Female

Gender: Nonbinary

Pronouns: Strictly prefers being referred to as They/Them, though will allow those closest to them to use the pronouns She/Her in private.

Age: Ageless

Height: 198.12 cm / 6’ 6”

Weight: 200+ lbs., including the brass/copper limbs, skull, lanterns, and heavy cloak.

Personality: Eerily calm and collected, Kruno rarely ever falters from the monotone demeanor they bear. They speak when they feel is necessary, or often when spoken to, otherwise maintaining an ominous silence. Despite their sinister appearance, Kruno is docile by default unless provoked or their core leaks.

Duty: Kruno is in charge of one of the city’s sources of light, steam-powered mechanical fireflies, though they will tend to any lanterns within the city as well. They are also the keeper of the sacred archive within the city, catacombs filled with texts of sacred and valuable knowledge.

Strengths

Speed/Agility: The steampunk legs of Kruno hold great strength, allowing for them to run well over 30 mph. They are also incredibly nimble in spite of almost always being seen walking at a leisurely pace.

Strength: While unlikely they would ever lash out with their feet, they will not hesitate to if it is necessary. Given these mechanical legs are made of steel, brass, and copper, they pack a hefty punch. It is not advised to provoke them into kicking out.

Relative Silence: The kerosene lanterns that hang from rustic chains wrapped around their antlers sway without a sound, the skull never rattles as they walk, and the metal joints of their legs are silent with each step. Only the hiss of steam venting from their heels and hooves is audible, alongside their light footfalls. Kruno travels in a relative silence most eerie for a creature with such appearance and features. It doesn't help that this Judge does not speak often... The clinking of rustic chains and the creak of bones is only ever audible up close, as though the noise itself is being suppressed by supernatural means. However, if one were to strike Kruno in say the mechanical legs, it would still produce sound as normal. If anything, this trait is concentration-based, and only applies when Kruno walks or runs without interference.

Abilities

Life Force Draining and Soul Consuming: By touching the skull and sometimes the lanterns, Kruno can sap away a portion of life force from the living who come in contact with them. It’s said that even gazing into their piercing amber eyes can make one feel  weak... While they refrain from doing so within the Metal City, Kruno is capable of consuming souls, but only if their core is broken.

Absorption Immunity: Kruno cannot have their life force, strength, powers, or abilities drained or absorbed by others, for reasons unknown.

Extensive Insight and Intuition: Kruno knows a lot about a single person- their sins, their deepest desires, their hearts, their intentions… They can tell your truths from your lies. This vast expanse of knowledge means that they can bargain and tempt those they speak to if they so please. This insight, however, only works for those who have a soul- things such as dolls or soulless machines provide nothing to Kruno. They are also incredibly keen on picking up even the most minuscule of details, ones which others may overlook. If no information can be gathered, Kruno may become wary of the individual.

'R e s t': If it ever comes to a point where Kruno becomes hostile and the cloak opens, it is strongly advised that one flees the area. Kruno will hunt her target to no end, and if one were to gaze into that piercing amber stare while she were in this state fall under a supernatural influence all of their past sins and wrongdoings would crash down upon them. Murder, theft, betrayal, scamming, the playing of ones heart... anything. The individual would feel repent for their horrible actions, and they can lose their sense of reality. Kruno offers these sinners 'rest'. Eternal rest- free from suffering. Beckoning them to come closer for redemption...
The heavier the gravity of the crime or sin, the heavier the feeling of rue. The heavier the feeling of rue, the greater the influence Kruno will have upon them. Based on the level of influence Kruno may have on someone, it may take a great deal of willpower to break free and flee.
Morality can play a part in Kruno's view of someone and the actions they may have committed. Things such as mercy-killing a child who was bitten by a zombie and had no chance of survival, or raising individuals from the dead with their willing permission beforehand to fight off an invading army, are all things Kruno could see held good intention. They may promptly turn a blind eye to those with this sort of grey morality, ultimately sparing them. Those who have a clean past; as in no sins having been committed or something pointlessly small such as stealing from the cookie jar as a wee child; nothing will happen. Kruno will bypass those who are pure to pursue the sinners.
Anyone can try and intervene, however they too may fall prey to Kruno's influence if they catch their gaze. Ultimately the decision is up to the character under their spell and whether or not they can muster the will to resist the temptation of 'rest' and freedom from suffering.

Absorption: Continuing from the ability listed above, this goes further into detail about another ability that comes into play if Kruno's hostility is brought forth. This only occurs if their core is broken under any condition, whether it be accidentally or purposefully by anyone. A viscous black goo holding the twisted and contorted visages of the many who have fallen to them before spills from the core, corroding away inorganic material such as metal, thus leaving Kruno legless. However, they still remain upright.
This sludge is Kruno's way of absorbing their victims; their bodies and souls merging with this paste to join the countless other sinners who have met the same fate. Once someone has been absorbed, there is no escaping- not their body, not their soul.

Telekinesis/Levitation: The lanterns that follow Kruno around float through the air, and seem to move at the will of the Judge. This hints that Kruno may have telekinetic abilities, as there is no other clear reason as to why these lanterns would float and move to Kruno's linking's.

Semi-Immortal: Unable to perish through senescence, hunger, or disease, Kruno can live on forever. They are still vulnerable to mortal wounds and injuries, but that’s about it. Mortal wounds, regardless of their severity, only ever seem to slow the Judge. If you're able to find the skeleton, however...

Natural Immunities: Given their lack of lungs; let alone organs of any kind; Kruno is completely unaffected by any forms of air impurities and gases. Kruno does not require sleep nor food

Dark Vision: Even without the aid of their lanterns or firefly friends, Kruno can effortlessly see through darkness as if it were basked it light. Regardless of what tenebrous may obscure an area for others, Kruno will be able to see through the shadows without trouble. Their glowing eyes, however, tend to give them away.

Weaknesses

Insight Limits: Kruno can only gather knowledge on someone if they are within line of sight and have a soul. Entities such as dolls or soulless machines provide nothing for Kruno in regards to sins, desires, and honesty.

Brass and Copper Legs and Features: The melting point of copper is 1,984°F, and 1,650-1,720 °F for brass. Blue-hot fire can melt both metals if they are exposed consistently to its heat for a long enough period of time. Melting the metals will render Kruno’s legs useless until they are repaired and/or replaced. Copper also conducts electricity very well, giving them a disadvantage against electric assaults. The brass, however, is far less conductive, despite containing copper.

Semi-Immortal: While Kruno can live forever, they are still vulnerable to mortal wounds and injuries, such as decapitation. This, however, only ever slows them. Find and destroy the skeleton hidden within the area they protect, and you will slay the Judge. Beware, however, as Kruno knows the catacomb-like archive they cherish with utmost precision, and will immediately turn to something akin to a stern, defensive anger if they find anyone has uncovered the skeleton. Or perhaps she may turn to worse...

Water and Electricity: Though Kruno themself is not weak against these elements, they can damage their steam powered mechanical limbs. Accumulated condensate water can pool inside these limbs, and if it's allowed to remain pooled, the water can cause corrosion. With luck, most of the water in the legs should leak out of the bottom of the hooves, but some water may still remain. If carbon dioxide is a present factor, the gas will combine with the condensate water to form carbonic acid, which aggravates any corrosion problems. The mechanical features and limbs are made primarily of brass and copper, which are both highly conductive metals. While again, Kruno is not at all weak to this element, the experience of being zapped is rather... electrifying.

Trivia and Fun Facts

  • It is believed that Kruno feeds upon the souls and life force of the living, though it is unknown just how reliant they are of this if it is true.

  • None except the Hostess know what lies beneath the cover of the cloak, and Kruno expresses no desire to hint or reveal what may be obscured to anyone, regardless of how close they may be to them.

  • The steam-powered fireflies that linger in areas of the Metal City will gather around Kruno if they are present, who seems to enjoy their company. Should anyone else touch them, they produce a loud screech, crying for mama. It never takes long for Kruno to appear ominously behind whomever spooked her fireflies...

  • Kruno almost always holds a kerosene lantern with a gilded top. Whenever they aren’t, it’s usually set down nearby- it’s never kept far from them.

  • Kruno is almost always seen using their right arm. When it's not in use, it's under their cloak. This may raise the question as to whether they even have a left arm...

  • Under normal circumstances, no one ever sees what is underneath that heavy dark cloak with the exception of The Hostess, alongside whomever might have assisted with their steampunk additions.

  • Please refrain from stealing, copying, ruining, or destroying any texts kept within the archive. Theft and destruction may be punishable by rest.

  • Through a mutual deal with the Hostess herself, Kruno was promised all the holdings in the Metal City's archive once the tournament ends and she is free. These texts will be added to a massive spirit library of sorts, where Kruno wishes to guard for the rest of eternity.

Backstory

Kruno originated upon church grounds after the body of a female deer was buried alive within the church. Tasked with guarding both the church and its graveyard from trespassers and gravediggers, Kruno eventually began to grow an interest in the sizable archive the religious building held. They would read through the books during active church hours with curiosity, only to return to her duties once all had left.
Even after the building was long since abandoned with the passing of hundreds of years, Kruno remained, still acting as its guardian.

They were brought to the Metal City by the Hostess, who presented an offer to Kruno- in exchange for their guard over the archives and tending to lights within the Metal City, Kruno would get to keep all the books within that archive. They accepted this, moving their skeleton to this new library and hiding it away where no one would discover it before taking on their new responsibilities. The Hostess affixed steampunk features to Kruno to better help them blend with the city, lest their appearance be too unnerving to those who view them.
Now this Judge serves as the archive's guardian, and hopes to one day be able to add the ancient texts to their own personal library.

I've heard of Dungeons and Dragons, and love playing it!
Unfortunately, I will not allow for the usage of my characters in your tournament and games, since I cannot trust they will be properly credited and such; if at all. They're all special to me, and I really don't want others to be using them.
Thank you so, so much for asking beforehand, though! That means a lot to me, truly!
I do hope the DnD tournament goes well, regardless!

I'd never plan to stop making art! It's a passion of mine I hold close, and it's a great way to express both yourself and the extents of your creativity!
Do keep practicing; as cheesy as it sounds, practice does indeed make perfect! I wish you the best of progression in your own art style!
As for future collaborations, I'll definitely dwell on the idea!
