Yaaaaaay! I rewatched this movie like five or six times... while I was on maternity leave. Then I bought and rewatched "Hot Fuzz" because DAMN.

I am *hoping* I'm going to be able to pull off some art that relates to this, this month, actually. This is almost the only zombie movie I like.

I ADORE those three; Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright.
ESPECIALLY the Hot fuzz it just... AW! Just my kind of movie - SO clever and so amazingly funny in a, what I do define as a, clever way.

Both Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead have that awesome quality of being really snarky, really gorey, and really moving all at the same time. I love the bromance in Hot Fuzz. It's adorable. I just cannot believe how funny that film is though. My sister tried to tell me, and when I first saw it, I thought it was extremely funny until the final what - 20 or 30 minutes? And I was like "Yeah, this IS a good movie - though, well, I think she might have exaggerated a tiny bit, I mean, it's not ALL that different from SotD..." So then - final 20 or 30 minutes and WOW. So that's what she meant. Did you go through the DVD extras where they have samples of the scenes with the swears dubbed out? I went around saying "Cheeky barstools" and "Peas and Rice!" for days afterwards.

Oh and also, I enjoyed the Star Trek movie reboot but it wasn't amazing, but Simon Pegg's accent was enough to push me from "Fan" into "Hyperactively Attracted To Him". Yaaaay!

OH lawd, I loved the peas and rice... there's was something about a duck too, no.
It's been SUCH a long time since I've seen them. I might have to re-watch them again.
I am eternally thankful for a film-buff-friend of mine who introduced me to them. I am a HUGE fan of BVçritish cinema and comedy so this was just right down my alley. D'you know about "Spaced"? A Tv-series in the beginning of their career. It's different, REALLY strange, but it has SO many ref. to other movies, cartoons etc. it's amazing to watch and try and catch them all (pokemon )

Hot Fuzz is with no doubt my fave though - I mean the ACTORS! Each and everyone more talented than the next - did you see "the other side of the notebook"? the little animation, part of the extra-material also.

YES! I meant to ask you about Spaced too, but forgot. Super great. We rented it well after seeing SotD and HF, so to go back to SotD and see the references to Spaced in it, that was fantastic. I particularly get a kick out of the zombie version of the bike delivery guy, the raver who's always high on E.

Oh, yes, the cast in Hot Fuzz is such a huge part of it. I... am sure I did see the animation but it's been a while since I looked at the extras now so it didn't stick for me. I remember the comic book "how did..." stories on SotD better.

Spaced WAS amazing. It was sooo weird, but I loved each and every piece of it.
I adored Frost's and Peggs bromance in that one... It was seriously out of control. And their guest-players and extras are superb. I seriously have NOTHING on those movies /series. Nothing.

Nick Frost is actually just adorable in that show, which is part of why it's so funny to see him be so abhorrent (but lovely, really) as Ed in "Shaun"... His charm just comes through so well, though. You cannot actually dislike him.

I've seen two Simon Pegg films that did not involve Edgar Wright and they were both disappointing. (er, minus "Star Trek", which is just too different to count)... On the other hand, I found myself really enjoying "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World" so I guess despite the ADD-style editing I am an Edgar Wright fan for life.

I haven't seen the last one; Yeah, I saw run fat boy run and that other american one, which... didn't really do anything for me either (the only thing I really liked 'bout RfbR was the appearance of Dylan Moran, my absolute favourite standard-comedian).

They *did* however make another one together with an Alien... Okay, I guess, too many fart and swear-jokes, but, meh.

And yes, Edgar Wright is... wow... Fan-forever

I forgot about the Alien film. We dont' see many movies in-theater so I missed it. I'll have to rent it just so that I've seen it. My own favourite aspect of Run Fatboy Run was the cameo by whasisname, guy from "Extras" who isn't Ricky Gervais, astoundingly tall co-creator of "The Office". Had the cameo in "Hot Fuzz" too. Stephen Merchant? I loved that because, having just watched "Hot Fuzz" and having postpartum hormones, "Fatboy" was actually making me *depressed* because it was not as funny as "Shaun" or "Hot Fuzz" (literally, I was starting to feel really sad over it, and wishing I could somehow wrap the Hot Fuzz DVD around me like a blanket - postpartum hormones are WEIRD), and I was thinking "There aren't even any cameos of the usual crew in this! EVERYTHING IS WRONG" and then there was Stephen Merchant and I perked right up.

I was talking with a coworker about directorial styles and she mentioned Baz Luhrmann and his really frenetic editing pace and flashy style, and I was like "Man, I can't stand that" and then realized that Edgar Wright does it almost exclusively. But SO WELL, so I'm not a complete hypocrite. ^_^

FrothingLizard In reply to Zebeckras [2011-10-05 03:08:52 +0000 UTC]

I didn't know about Luhmann actually, I did catch the 'spoof' in all that fast-editing Wright does, but I actually thought was more of an 'ode' or ref. to those kind of over-geared, over-action-packed movies.

OH Lord, I had completely forgotten Merchant, yes, I ADORED him (almost close enough to a REALLY strange crush) but I used to follow their (him, Gervais' and Pilkingtons) podcast, so seeing him in RFBR was REALLY a pleasant. I loved him in the Extras - again, another personal fave of mine.
I was okay with RFBR - I didn't expect it to be like the others; and even if it was WAY too clichΓ© (with the ooooooh-nasty American and such) it was somewhat a very sweet movie.
