Once I thought that the most logical explanation for these mammoths in the sky is Meridia talking to them the way she did to dragonborn

This happened to me once, too. The only difference was that a giant was trying to club a wolf, and launched its own mammoth in the air. But not only did it fly, but when it came back down, it landed atop another mammoth's back, facing the opposite way. But, since it was dead from the giant's club, it didn't stay that way for long and it fell off. It was like a circus act!

I never thought of it like that. Perhaps she was trying to practice picking up and putting down something without killing it, given how many times I've been dropped and killed.
