While Canada as a nation didn't participate in the American Civil War, individual Canadians did, men and women both [approximately 50,000] serving in the Union & Confederate armies. Jim Cougle wrote a wonderful book on the subject entitled Canadian Blood, American Soil: The Story of Canada's Contribution to the American Civil War which I have. It's a very good book and I highly recommend it.
