Well that was a very long time, but we were always under both France and England's control. It just depended where you lived. We never fought with Britain. We got our independence in 1867 peacefully and didn't become a full nation until after World War 1 with the Statute of West Minister. My land is Canada, my home and native land It is definitely not Civil War It looks more War of 1812.

The War of 1812 had actually involved a lot of different countries for different reasons. For Canada, the War of 1812 was fighting off American intrusion. To put it simply, Britain was trying to make deals with some Aboriginal groups and America didn't like that. They didn't think they stood a chance against the British navy, as it was the strongest one at the time. Instead, America attacked Canada because they we were still a British colony. Many small battles took place, and at one point in time they burned down Canada's capital building, York. Canadians and some British managed to push back American forces all the way down to the gulf of mexico, where they finally pushed us back. The British burned down the White House for what the Americans did, the war was considered a tie but many Canadians consider it a win for Canada. (but not Britain)

I must admit, recent years have somewhat shamed the proud Canadian history that came before it.
