A few weeks ago, I started re-watching Angel with my boyfriend. It's kind of nostalgic for us, as he got me hooked in the early days of our relationship. I'd seen many of the episodes before, out of sequence, but he made me watch all 5 seasons, start to finish, so I could appreciate the story. One of the things I like most about the show is the mood - the feeling of a glimmer of hope, love and cheer, despite the ever-impending descent into Hell! Lorne in particular was always a ray of sunshine when all hope seemed lost.

Anyway, the rewatching inspired me to have a go at drawing, using screenshots as reference images. I figured the demons should be pretty easy, as they're not something we see every day and are therefore open to interpretation. Another thing I enjoy about the show is the art direction; while it's easy to find fault with the special effects, the lighting, costumes and makeup are, in my mind, just superb.

So, to make a long story slightly shorter, in my search for a decent set of reference images, I learned that Andy Hallett had died just two weeks previously! So this, instead of being a nice leisurely project I might tuck away in a folder & never complete, became a slightly hastily-made tribute to the actor who played one of my favourite demons on TV.
