So.... ChibiAku and ChibiIroh.
I like how Aku cam out, but I feel like I really could've done better on Iroh... I dunno, I didn't have as good a reference for him
But aaaaannywayyyyyyyy.
You may be wondering, "Why?" ... Actually, you might just be wondering, "Hey, Aku and Iroh in Chibi. That's nice." Either way.
Why did I draw both of them in one thing? Well, first of all, they're two of my favorite characters in two of my favorite cartoons who were voiced by the same person: Mako Iwamatsu.
And you may have noticed that today is my day of birth.
What you may not know is that today is also Mako Iwatsu's date of death.
Yep, on July 21, 2006, the great Mako passed away at age 72 from esophageal cancer.
So, you know... I thought it might be nice to make a kind of tribute to him... and I can't really draw Mako, so... I drew Aku and Iroh...(Which actually makes some sense since these characters kinda opposites...)
And hey, just because he died... 9? years ago doesn't mean it's to late to make a little tribute like this.
So yeah...
Mako Iwamatsu was a pretty awesome actor and voice actor. He even served in the military in the 50s, and him and a few others formed something called the East West Players theatre company that helped Asian-American actors(allowing them to perform and train there) and Asian-American playwrights.
He had many roles in movies and television shows, including Aku from Samurai Jack, Iroh from The Last Airbender, and a few different roles in M*A*S*H.
Possibly one of his last roles was as the voice of Master Splinter in an animated TMNT movie, where, the day before his death, the director of said movie confirmed that Mako would star in it.
There was also a segment of the Avatar episode "Tales of Ba-Sing-Se" dedicated to Mako, and in the series The Legend of Korra, the main character Mako was named after him.
