This is probably really biased and inaccurate but so is every other tut so idkCouldn't really make an actual tutorial about colors so I made a list of rules so it was easier to read.
On a side note: when I say that a color is generally ugly/pretty, I mean it's hard/easy to match it with other colors.

This represents MY opinion on colors. It's biased. Every artist has their own way of coloring and preference in atmosphere. I'm just trying to give some insight about colors to those who want it/need it.

i pretty much do all your donts and use the ugly colours. hahaha i dont think ive actually used purpl or green in a colour scheme ever.

I DO ALL OF YOUR DON'TS EXCEPT SHADING WITH BLACK AND WHITE
ALSO I USE THE GENERALLY UGLY COLORS IN EVER PICTURE

I'm terrible with color schemes in general; all my shading tends to be just darker and lighter shades of the base color. D:

some of these i agree with and some i think are veeerrry situational-dependent. Like I totally agree with not using white for highlights and black for shadows, and the rainbow thing, and choosing your colors in proportion and whatnot. But what do you mean by "go from the darkest darks to the lightest lights"? I wouldn't suggest using such a large tonal range on a default picture, that kind of thing depends on mood and stuff just as much the hue. i've actually kind of been struggling with this as i tend to use too much contrast so things look way too sculpted instead of natural :\ Also I'm not sure why you put a color limit at around 4-5 colors? If you're going for a graphic look 2 colors can be really fun to work with, and making available to yourself only a few colors can challenge your composition skills. I guess I just don't know what you mean by 'make color schemes that have 4-5 colors'...

Yeah I can see what you mean. this is why you can't really teach colors, because everyone has their own taste in the mood and atmosphere of their art.
