Description From the field journal of the widely know traveler █████:

"Today I encountered a pack of strange, intelligent creatures. They were unlike any I've seen before; a strange amalgamation of fur, feathers, and flora. I took a pause in my adventures to observe them a while, documenting their behaviors and qualities. Below are some details from my surveillance, although only seeing some up close would provide one with the full experience!

  • Troxi (as I have dubbed them) are a very communal species; packs include 20 to 30 members each, populated by creatures that would protect each other with their dying breaths and a few older pack leaders that guide with great wisdom.
  • Packs generally live  and move around high in the mountains, where the colder, brighter climate serves their heavy fur and symbiotes well.
  • A terratrox will be considered fully grown after 4 years, with an average lifespan of 100 years. By the time they have reached maturity, they will have been taught to hunt, fight, and protect by their peers and parents.
  • Traits such as fur color (20% chance mutation), horn type, and crystal formations (15% chance mutation) are inherited.
  • Mothers will give birth to 2 to 4 offspring at a time in a special nest created by the father with his selection of germinating plants or fungi to initiate their symbiotic relationship with the offspring.
  • Troxi are primarily carnivores and will hunt practically any smaller creatures to eat. They will lie in hiding, emitting a pungent gas (lasting for about 5 minutes) that either lures or disorients the prey and a light from their tail to attract them. Occasionally, they will consume berries for a vitamin supplement.
  • Although they are predators, troxi are rather docile otherwise. Generally, there is no competition between males during mating season, as there is always about an even balance of males to females. Normal troxi are not sought after more than mutated ones.
  • Though wings are typically associated with flying, that is not their only purpose on a terratrox. They will use them for gliding from peak to peak while migrating sometimes, but they also are used as cover and...blankets (?) during harsh weather and a shield as defense from creatures that attack them like dragons or wyverns.
  • Troxi weaknesses (or the closest to such) are being somewhat slow-moving; having a rather average eyesight, hearing, and smell; and practically no camouflage on the wintery mountain caps.
  • They seem indifferent towards humans; I have been in their presence for quite some time now, and they do not seem to acknowledge me as friend, foe, or prey. A few curious younglings have approached and sniffed me while I watched, but for no longer than a few moments before their mother called them away to continue their trek through the mountains.

  • Ah, there are so many new things I see every day I journey with them, I cannot even write them all down! For instance, as I finish this entry, I hear the roar of a terratrox in the distance. Their roars can be heard miles around! Oh, and now another responds, and another. It seems to be a sort of tradition? I have not pegged the cause for their chorus of cries yet. I will probably have to update this when I find the answer and other new discoveries.

    Sincerely,
    █████"

Sooo, Here's a new (and hopefully original) creation of mine! This idea has been floating around my head ever since I was pretty young, and now I felt like it should come to the limelight. Most of the details I've thought about the species are listed above, and I will update this if I come up with new ones or draw some art with them.

The ref itself was done traditionally with colored pencils and markers, and created an interesting challenge when trying to keep the colors across its transformation to digital form, haha. Oh, if you notice they gray bar at the bottom, I blanked out my name because I'm not sure I want to share that publicly yet...

Um, I don't know it anyone would like one for their very own, but if you do, you can totally make some for yourself, just please: 1) adhere to what I've posted here about them, 2) don't make things with them to sell or be purchased, 3) credit me as the creator of this idea, 4) don't draw explicit content with them (blood/gore is okay), 5) tell me if you draw or write or whatever about them! Thanks!

If you have any ideas, comments, or critiques about them, please, let me know!

The Troxi belong to me (please don't steal)!
