My entry for the Altlantis Contest [link] by .

I know there are many different stories about Atlantis, but this is my version:

Atlantis once was a paradise-like island with many trees, animals and colourful birds. The habitants were fond of their land and cared for it. They especially loved the Ocean, because it gave life to them. There were a lot of fishermen who brought the food for the people of Atlantis, but they took only what they needed so that the nature of the sea wouldn't be harmed.

But after finding gold they became arrogant and overbearing and sought more and more wealth. They built big houses, high towers and beautiful palaces. They wanted to better each other at wearing the most expensive jewellery. Even the poorest ones lookerd like queens and kings. The forests had to give away to their giant towns and the giant amunts of fish died out in order to nourish the many people.

Seeing all this enraged the gods of Atlantis. They made the once beloved sea take away all the gold the Atlanteans had turned to. To take back the life it once had given to them.
