this was a really fast design that i sketched up on a whim yesterday, but i liked it so i polished it up a bit! this is Shortlegs McNamara (he objects to the first name and insists on being called mcnamara), a big dragon who is in essence a flying colony for the humans living on him. his wingspan is almost 4.5km so he is big

he's very easygoing (maybe even too easygoing) and enjoys the company of the humans who travel with him on his endless flight around the globe. his species is airborne more often than not and landing is a big deal - if he doesn't pick an appropriate landing spot, like a high cliff or a plateau he'd never be able to get airborne again. like an albatross he needs strong air currents and a downward slope. in a way he's a bit like an old-fashioned sailship, in that if the wind isn't right he can't travel, and must remain grounded until the breeze picks up in the right direction.

his kind have almost died out; human settlements have drastically reduced the numbers of available landing areas, and often a grounded dragon will stay grounded for the rest of their life, unable to mate or bear young and easy targets for the smaller more terrestrial dragons also forced out of their territory by humanity's spread.
