me: Hey what's u- holy shit girl why are you wearing shorts
friend: I didn't even notice.Β

Hola.
Have been out of touch; how is Christmas today in Canada? Here in Saint Pete Beach the weather is balmy, which is very good because my wool sweater is terribly uncomfortable.

Also a lot of chocolate candy; why not art materials, of which I constantly need more?

At least you weren't given gift cards, the all-purpose present for when you don't want to take the trouble of finding out what the person for whom you areΒ buying really likes or wants.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mifubi In reply to belianis [2015-12-25 20:59:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh please, don't make think of the pile of them on my desk. The harry potter books and chocolate was from like 6% of my family. How big is yours? I have so many cousins I can't count them, and most of them got me cards. I can't complain though, I bought them cards too because I'm away ninety percent of the time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

belianis In reply to Mifubi [2015-12-26 00:40:30 +0000 UTC]

I have endless numbers of cousins who also sent me cards; as for gift cards I don't know what I'll do with them, for most are from businesses where I never shop. I could have used a card from Barnes & Noble, and especially one from Sears to replace my pocket watch, which expired in November.

What grieves me is that I didn't get a scanner to replace the one that broke down on June. My social worker has promised to give me one from her agency, Suncoast Center; I hope it's something not too bulky, as I have no car and have to use the bus. Hopefully I'll start posting more art by next year.

I better get used to light clothes when I visit Canada, then; like I said, I find heavy clothes too stifling.
Back in 1980, when there was a week of chilly weather at Fort Lauderdale, a Canadian girl was bathing in the beach. When interviewed about it, she cheerfully answered:
You think THIS is cold??? You obviously have never beenΒ to Montreal during the winter!!!

It feels like someone shoved ice into your under wear. I think red would be good if you had bold features and then you pair it with a dark top.Β

Summer in Florida is unbearable, especially since I don't have real cotton shirts; polyester in summer feels as suffocating as wool!
Ice in the underwear doesn't sound so bad by comparison.

I have never been as far North as Canada. What kind of clothes would you recommend that stop the cold without feeling stifling? I want to feel WARM, not HOT.

Mifubi In reply to belianis [2015-08-09 01:19:49 +0000 UTC]

Just your regular winter wear. (By the way, I've never felt hot no matter what I've worn) jacket, snow pants, gloves, hat, etc etc.

belianis In reply to Mifubi [2015-08-18 15:35:11 +0000 UTC]

How is the weather in your Philippines? My Puerto Rico is more bearable than Florida because we have plenty of mountains which keep the air moving, sort of like an abanico=fan.

Mifubi In reply to belianis [2015-08-19 12:02:01 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure the weather's on meth where I'm at. In the morning it'll be cloudy and drizzle, but by noon the heat's nearly unbearable. Then at night it rains again! It's supposed to be summer.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

belianis In reply to Mifubi [2015-08-20 22:10:51 +0000 UTC]

The story of your flag:
to show their common purpose of fighting for independence Cuba, Philippines and Puerto Rico chose flags with triangles and the colors blue, white and red, symbols of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.
Cuba:Β redΒ triangle and white and blue stripes
PH: white triangle and blue and red stripes
PR: blue triangle and white and red stripes
In the case of the latter, some bureaucratic pendejos have suggested that the blue, white and red represent the three branches of the government--obviously a ploy to hide and deny the revolutionary origin and meaning of the PR flag, and in effect denying that of the flags of Cuba and PH.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mifubi In reply to belianis [2015-08-21 01:41:13 +0000 UTC]

What? That's not entirely true, I don't think. The colors represent patriotism, justice, (blue) valor, blood spilt for freedom and independence (red), and peace and purity (white). The three stars represent our three main places, Visayas, Luzon, and Mindanao. The sun has eight rays that show the eight provinces that led the Philippines uprising against the Spanish rule.Β

Fun fact: the Philippine flag is also the country's sign for ensign, when the Philippines are at war they brandish it upside down, red on top of blue.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

belianis In reply to Mifubi [2015-08-21 11:30:30 +0000 UTC]

That, too, but Liberty, Equality and Fraternity was the original symbolism for the French flag, from which the revolutionaries drew their inspiration.
The relation of the PH flag to those of C and PR has been so forgotten that even WIKIPEDIA does not mention it; nevertheless, if you put the PH flag together with the other two the resemblance is immediately obvious.
