i dont see why some people over react about the humanization. If an artist wants to make flippy a teenager, let them. It called fan art because its the FAN'S version, as in how they see it. Everyone's different. I LOVE this pic

Thanks to Ruinous Powers, they do not have official humanization designs, so artists often copy each other. And that's the problem.
Best example of wrong humanization is Flippy. Most artists turn him into pretty subtle teenage bishie, while he is supposed to be 30-35 years old tough commando.
Splendid is also one of unfortunate characters - most (deprived of own vision) artists make him look like teen with blue hair and in baggy tracksuit, which looks quite stupid.

I got into the fandom just because I've seen so many fanarts (mostly on Japanese fansites) with the characters just like you described them. Before I didn't even know what HTF was...

There is way for those who cannot develop their style: copy style of really good artist. In example, Kaboom Chuck does really great humanizations.
