Description My first EVER male picture which makes for a refreshing change. Again this is a BG drawn and designed from scratch. Hardly flawless but I feel like I am slowly getting better, although a lot of areas I still have to improve on. I was particularly trying to get the colour scheme to feel right and a sense of indoor lighting, I don’t think it worked too well though.

Any advice, comments and critique hugely appreciated

wow...wonderfull, although I did'nt see it was a male at first, which I often don't with anime style art
the left foot (on the floor) is a bit out of perspective though.
realy love the head!

Hahaha yeah its all the trend in anime, androgenous males ! I actually find them boring to draw, muscles are more fun but harder to draw than unshapely chaps.

Very nice. It has the feel of thick paint yet seems that he could turn that radient smile on the viewer at any second. I love the shoji screens, very nice you have the semi-transparnt quality almost perfectly. Very well done, I look forward to more from you. You should draw more guys! ^_^ Kawaii!

I love the colours. Kinda gives me an early, winter mood. *__* mm.. hot coco.
The background is simple, yet ever so fancy. I like it when it's like that .^^ The colour scheme worked out fine, don't worry. I like the shadows in the screens (they are shadows right? ) Another ^^

Wow.. this is really good.. I love the soft colors and shapes.. give a very relaxed feel to the whole thing.. you did a wonderful job on the background.. it looks so calm and inviting..

Had to put my glasses on to look at this one hehe. Awesome work! The character looks great, nice design and the hair is cool. Also the pants and shoes look great. The pose looks pretty natural and the background is amazing. The colors are great and I really the plant, you are good at painting that kind of stuff.

the bg looks great! i mean, i love the shadows on the wall. and i love the little tree. teh coloring seems so s00.. iunno, the tree almost looked watercolored XD and the design of the chair/sofa/whatever u wanna call it is neat. the shading overall fits w/ your soft coloring, but slightly more contrast may add to it if u darken some of your shadows and such. but all in all, it's a great pic

Yeah the softness is a problem, I realise its really pale, especially on alot of other computer XD I have to keep remebering to bring out that contrast.

This is awesome! I think the indoor lighting came across very well, since there aren't many very dark shadows anywhere. I love your coloring style, a very nice painted look. The subject is also great...cool pose and I love the expression. The guy doesn't seem separated from the background to me, and the subtle shadows on the windows of the trees outside are a very nice touch, too. Very nice work here...I'm definitely impressed.

He looks adorable, androgyny indeed^^ I'll allways be amazed by the patience and skill you have for bakgrounds, and this is lovely. One thing though, as ~joriavlis said the bg and the character look a little... separated. I think it's because of the outlines, the bg doesn't have outlined edges and this cute boy^.^ has strong ones. At least that's what I see... but don't mind me it really looks fantastic. It really does. It's a very sweet piece, the way I see it. ^___^

Yeah I feel its that and a few other things, the shading style is different too and I actually paint them as two different files and just slap them ontop of eachother :lazy: hehe. Gonna improve on that for sure ! But thankyou hugely for your advice and comments dude.

warmth and comfort was what I was after, tried to take that on with the colour scheme. Glad it seemed to work.

You have to improve the way your character inegrates himself with the background!! Try to put some shadows under him, think of a point of light, and project his shadows on the environement. Good Luck

Awsome, thanks for the crit and advice. I think the shadows there are alittle weak atm, especially around his feet, Ill touch it up alittle more and take it on for the next pic to be sure

it looks like a med clinic or waiting room. the light i think (as if i ever do!) would ould be a little brighnter due to heavy use of flourescent bulbs. then again it looks like it set in an asian country soooo maybe the lighting is consistant with expectaions there... and i'm back where i started! LOL anyways the entire composition as a whole looks wonderful. good job!
