Maybe this would help:
Do your clay creations in steps (meaning you bake parts before doing something else)
I first do the ice cream cones, then i bake then, then i add the scoop then i bake again. If i want to add icing of top i do a third bake

I tought that might be your problem
Baking in steps may take more time and energy out of your oven but the results get better

i made a wafle texture mold out of scrap clay

She teaches 2 ways...i use the first one and did several diferent ones (using credit cards, blades, paper clips,...) and then baked and tried all the diferent ones i did and used the ne i tought was the most appealing
