Description
Finally finding some time to help out again. Thanks for being patientI was asked about anatomy problems. I was shown some of the reference worked from.
Cool ref. I broke down the main issues with the ref drawing. In terms of your overall drawings ( MCHLSU )
I think you have very expressive line work; which is good don't lose that quality. I would recommend slowing down and focusing
on lay in drawings. Anatomy is useful to know only if you know how to use it. Anatomy in the hierarchy
of drawing sits pretty low on the totem pole. Gesture, shape, proportion, form, lighting, what to eat for lunch, then anatomy.
Back to the drawings. The main issues I see are that the construction lines do not reinforce the finished drawing.
Shapes can be simplified and pushed. Under drawing and final drawing should work harmoniously together. If this is not so;
you've just done two completely different drawings. One thing that I see a lot in student drawings is something we call the Michelin man
syndrome. It's when muscles are not rythmical and create brackets. Muscles do not work in this way. They always
grab the next form so they can push and pull. It reflects in the silhouette.
Lastly, there's a misconception about a lot of anime head drawings. ( Most ) Anime drawings still have clear base heads underneath.
Usually communicated by the placement of details or overall mask shapes. A lot of times I see students go through the motions
of drawing construction lines that do not help them with the drawing. Remember that construction lines are only useful if they
help you to understand the underlying form and help you to place the details accordingly. We all did it at one time or another
Rock On!
