Hey, so this is a weird question, but I just drew an asian lady for the first time and realized it was harder for me. Made me wonder if I its a problem because most of the people I see day to day are your run of the mill nodic-ish caucasians. First of all, have you found it easier to draw from your own ethnic group, or is it all the same to you. Second, is there a particular facial framework you use for various ethnicities?

lol don't start out drawing asian people.  It's difficult because forms are more subtle.  Especially women.  If you want to study planes; draw the elderly.
All the forms are obvious and it takes some pressure off.  Drawing pretty women on site adds some pressure because you don't want to draw them ugly.
We used to joke around about how you have to level up to draw asian women.  You don't just start there.

All face shapes can be solved if you learn the base head ( dummy head )  Once that is committed to memory; you can more easily see how other face mask shapes vary.

Roger that. That is actually the opposite of what I expected though. I though because of the subtle forms you wouldnt have to "carve" so much from the base head. With old people I always feel like its easier because there is so much modeling going on that the shapes get lost. In either case, I am going to maybe just do a huge sheet of base heads, just to get my shit together. Thanks man!

Thank you, I really needed something like this as I'm currently trying to improve my drawings of heads.
BTW, those timed head sketches are awesome.
Maybe I should try doing something similar as well.

All your work is awesome but especially the way you paint heads.
Again thank you for this and the other notes posted in your gallery.
I'm sure they will come in very handy.

Hmm.... I find myself making most female heads like 3... I don't know why. I'll try the other three and use this as reference, if you don't mind....

Go nuts. There's many ways of thinking about the head. These are just some.
Use what makes sense.

The one most similar to the one I use is the number 3, although not exactly the same

I am glad to know there are many ways to skin a cat. My formative art education was always about rules, and doing things the "right way" its good to know there are a bunch of ways to get to the solution.

Yep there's many breakdowns for everything. They're all basically the same but have slight differences. There's several ways of interlocking arm joints that are basically the same but accent different details. All are valid. Even strict academic figure drawing instructors had different breakdowns memorized.
