Description
Just for a minute...forget Marble Hornets. Forget Tribe Twelve. Forget all the Slenderman vlogs. Forget SLENDER. Forget whatever Slenderman artist you idolize. The ugly truth is that Slenderman does not have a concrete, written-in-stone canon. Aside from his basic attributes (tall, skinny, tendrils, claws, three-piece dark suit, no face, bald, kills/eats people, lives in the forest) his abilities depend upon the artist/writer. He doesn't necessarily have to be immortal, unkillable, unstoppable, etc. Don't just parrot what everyone else thinks he's like. Develop a headcanon of your own!

My version of Slendy, for instance, isn't immortal, just really hard to kill because of his regenerative abilities. And he's not TEH MOST POWERFUL THING IN TEH UNIVERSE and SUPER DUPER UNBEATABLE. My Slendy's sort of an anagalm of several different versions (uses Proxies, has blood and internal organs, isn't immortal, can regenerate, organic tendrils, only teleports when he really needs to, has a hidden mouth, etc.)

also, I AM NOT TRASHING ANY SLENDERMAN SERIES. I'm just saying they're not canon and encouraging you to develop a headcanon of your own. You can still enjoy then, just don't take them as the gospel.

Slenderman (c) Victor-Surge

True. I'm making my own slenderverse series right now (null-jordan ), and I've given my version of the slender man the ability to majorly shapeshift/mimic and... generally given him my own spin, without really doing too much research on the topic. I do that with about every monster I decide to tackle, but still... I tend to forget lore and make the monster my own.

You are absolutely correct. Thank you for making such a stamp, I do get tired of people trying to say "he's supposed to be this blah blah blah", or "he wouldn't like you/her/him because of blah blah blah reasons" I just like to have fun with the character and make up my own stories about him. You are awesome

I smell a fangirl. anyway its called ambiguity. he's scarier without a back story or much info because of mystery. if you give him a backstory or justify anything he just isn't scary at all.

thats what fangirls always say. hes ambiguous because he doesn't have a cannon. making him into molding putty destroys that

AriaGrill In reply to furbearingbrick [2015-08-31 20:53:32 +0000 UTC]

did I say that? no. I said he shouldn't have a backstory because that would destroy all ambiguity, the thing that makes it how it is, not scary. lack of cannon is its cannon as mystery is what makes the slenderman scary.

PROTIP: headcanons don't actually alter the original material. That's what makes them HEADcanons. They're other peoples' interpretations of him. You don't like 'em? That's cool, you don't have to. But you also have no right to demand people stop imagining Slendy in their own unique ways because you don't like it. Shitting on others' creativity because YOU think its "ROOININ SLENDARMAN" for is selfish and uncool.

those people with headcannons ship him with a 13 year old. he does belong to marvel hornets and what they say, goes. don't like cannon? don't make a headcannon, move on to a different character if you hate the cannon so much

Ringtailed-Loser In reply to AriaGrill [2015-08-31 21:37:03 +0000 UTC]

Actually, Slenderman belongs to Victor-Surge and was made on "something-awful-forums" a long time ago. Meanwhile, while I agree that ambiguity keeps creepypastas lovably creepy and unnerving to read, I feel the fun that goes on in a fandom is for the enjoyment of the fans. Mostly cause when less is more, it leaves you open for ideas and interpretations that you can share with people.

More often than not, people love to share headcanons. It's a healthy way to use your imagination. One doesn't necessarily hate the canon, but rather, wants to put a creative little twists on what hasn't been confirmed.

I don't want to tell you how to argue, but generalizing fans who love shipping and headcanons won't make you sound insightful enough to listen to.

furbearingbrick In reply to AriaGrill [2015-08-31 21:27:31 +0000 UTC]

SO many thing wrong with this...
First of all, Marble Hornets is, because of copyright reasons, NOT about Slenderman. It's about a similar being named The Operator.
Secondly, don't think I saw through your "b-b-but shippers!" red herring. Just as many people who make headcanons for Slendy DON'T ship him with anyone or sexualize him. A headcanon can be something as simple as an explanation for how he eats without a mouth or as complex as his origin or why he captures children in the first place. Some headcanons I've seen are actually pretty damn creepy!
And no, I DON'T hate canon. I'm just encouraging people to come up with headcanons of their own as well (much to the chagrin of people like you.)

Technically Slenderman is based off a legend from Germany tracing back to the 1600's. If Slendy were to have a true canon it would be from that. But I agree everyone should be entitled to making their own headcanon for Slenderman.

I guess his only true canon is the two original photos put on The Something Awful Forums.

Also, Marble Hornets technically isn't even about Slenderman, due to copyright issues, they made it an entirely different entity named The Operator. And The Operator doesn't actually use Proxies, it's an entirely different process altogether.

Let's be honest, Old Man Henderson exists to kill Eldritch abominations/Lovecraftian-type entities like Slenderman.

All for the glory of his lawn gnomes of course.

And yesh, he does. They exist at multiple points of spacetime usually, but he's probably where a lot of their stories end, so to speak~

ProxyComics [2015-08-01 04:37:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, actually, it technically does. Though it wasnt actually called slenderman, and there was no full blown story, there is still technically an original. It was very different from what people think of today though, after all the pass downs and depictions. The "slenderman" was very hidden away in a pile of unknown creations until a group asked permission to create their own representation of the creature, this was bloomed into the series of marble hornets. Marble hornets spawned the well known version, static, puppets, mystery workers, and so on. This was passed down into other stories like tribe twelve and more stories. These are not the originals of course, but these were created by a pass. A pass from the original. Just thought you should know I would tell you the guys name, though i apologize for my lack of memory of said subject

I fully agree! Slenderman is a legend and his story is open to interpretation! A legend is, by definition, a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but unauthenticated; thus the story may or may not be true. Legends can be told and retold so many times that the information can easily be construed and altered as a result!

Thus, there is so much art that can be made for Slenderman because his story is a legend, not a story with one true reliable source! Thank you for adding this to our group, #SlendyLove ! Let your Slendy imagination soar!

yup
slenderman is a huge mystery of why he kills and stuff, which i love about him, even tho he doesn't have a solid canon, just headcanons
like Jeff, he doesn't have solid canon, but people argued that's he's 20 because of his other stories(?) like jeff vs jane?
tbh, i still see him as 13, but i'll just keep that to myself...

It's one of my favorite things about Slenderman. The lack of any canon qualities leaves for SO many fascinating ideas and everyone has room for an interpretation of him!

Not sure it's a good idea to include people's username's in the description, though. They might see this as a call-out deviation- which I'm sure isn't the purpose, but still.

In my headcannon, instead of just puking and bleeding noses, the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears bleed. Some fevers get so high that you can pass out, and if he gets too close to my character Skel, She will have seizures while her face bleeds like crazy. His proxies never talk or bond with each other. To put it in short words, his radiation levels are higher, making it quite hard to even get a good picture or something. How's that?
