Golden paws thundering, Hushedlight charged the god, though in spite of her effort, her pursuit once again met a fate similar to her first failed attempt. Brewing within the crimson stained sky, a shadow erupted, striking the ground in an electrifying bolt which decisively blocked her path towards the monstrous boss in a veil of smoke. Like a filthy tendril, thick gas snaked its way into her throat, restricting her airway and choking her lungs as she coughed a fit.

The agonized shrill of a grieved caterwaul pierced her ears, while claws sliced through the air and narrowly whizzed past her fur, but not before effectively severing several long strands from her side. Alarmed by the suddenly conjured assailant, Hushedlight acted defensively and surrendered a few steps. Her crimson eyes still stung from the smoke, but the screen had nearly cleared, revealing the identity of her attacker.

Furiously twitching, a golden tail was raised dangerously high alongside bristling, white hackles. Spitting, her maw drawn tight into a snarl, an otherwise lovely face corrupted by undeniable rage. Worst of all, blue eyes the exact color of the young morning sky were hardened like marbles. Transparent. A clear reflection of the bitter emotions and contempt this cat held for her.

Hushedlight's eyes widened to discs, and she involuntarily relinquished another step. "No, not you, not here."

Hesitation sunk into the Darkling bone's as she faced the Lilac cat. This couldn't be happening. She had not seen this elusive face since the Call. This could not possibly be the cat from all those months ago, and yet she still held reservation and idled before her foe.

"Lavi, why didn't you do something?? ANYTHING?! How could you just stand there and watch him DIE! It should've been you, YOU MONSTER!!" Anger and grief racked the Lilac cat's voice, resentment seething from her words at this "Lavi" --at her.

Hushedlight was rooted in her steps, petrified by the memory--it was too real for it to simply be imagined. The arc of her tail and those frozen lake eyes had been engraved into her mind. Even if her past was currently rendered dormant, her old self was still there waiting to be dusted off.

Unlike her, the memory of the Lilac cat didn't hold any reservation. She darted forward and struck her cheek with unsheathed claws, administering pain which jostled her from her frozen state and plunged her back into reality. Blood dribbled down from three slices along her maw, and her crimson eyes narrowed, decided and intent on battle. She didn't have time to waste on this delusion. This resentful cat no longer existed outside her memory; she needed to stop Nicolas so that the world would be saved--so that wherever the Lilac cat was, she might be alright.

She wanted to meet this stranger with ties to her past again, but not under these conditions. She hoped to find the truth of the past, not to dwell on it, but to move forward. The Darkling unsheathed her claws and threw herself at the enraged feline.
