Description Ravaged by human greed, war and pollution their mother has died and become a shell of her former glory...

Now what remains of the race must search the stars for a new world: Seyeu

Hello all!

This is my first spacescape EVER!

Time Spent: 6-8 hours

Medium: Photoshop CS4

I created this piece ENTIRELY from scratch, no stock, no brushes (well one but I made it myself ^_^)

If you see anything that looks weird, feel free to comment!

P.S. I'm not sure if I should make more stars (larger ones) in the nebula in the upper right or not, also I was debating on wether or not to add a space ship in the image heading towards the planet....INPUT WOULD BE AWESOME!

Enjoy!

you said you made this from scratch, but I can't see how. LOL!
For the texture you made, what was it used for? The planet?

Either way, could you post a tutorial on how you made this? I would love to learn how to make clouds of gas and nebula like you did here from scratch. PLEASE? =3

Easy. Find something neat, take picture, upload and edit. The top right nebula was actually made from my nebula brush pack.

Look up spacescape tutorials on here, they are very helpful and start you off in the right direction.

well what tutorials did you specifically for this? especially the background - how did you get the nebula on the top right and clouds up front?

Just search spacescape tutorial or planet tutorial? Idk there were a ton of them when I first started.

Stardust infront of the planet? Thats a HUGE fucking planet.

The star field needs more variation and a tiny bit of color, its just a noise layer with 0 depth. Erase some areas of it and add maybe some small-resized lens flares in there for bright stars.

The upper-right nebula isn't bad, but it looks like you just used the clouds filter, try brushing and smudging some of the texture to give it more shape.

I suggest maybe following a ring tutorial that doesn't use the swirl technique, because it just really doesn't look right, at all.

Planet looks fine for now, a little boring but hey, you'll progress with practice.

I think you could put more work into this. Though for your first shot and with no resources, it could be a lot worse.

Heres a nice set of almost all the good space tutorials on dA, check it out if you have some time: [link]

You said to comment if we see anything that looks weird, so. Keep at it.

Thanks for the comment!

And yes it's MASSIVE

I had variation in the star field, it was made with a scatter brush not the noise filter, I'm not quite sure where it went....lol

I also used a scatter brush for the ring since I wanted it to look very "scraggly" I did look at the twirl tut, but it looks BAD.

For the nebula I used a early version of my nebula brushes but it sucked...BADILY. This is the new ones that I made: [link] I'm reworking this piece with those

I tried to make it look boring and possibly uninhabitable. The background to this piece is that humans have killed Earth and everyone has left to search the galaxy for a new home planet. Eh I'll try to jazz it up a bit

I did this for my AP Art portfolio mixed media breath, cotton pic by me to make neb brush, rust pic to make planet, it looked better then than it does now

And yes I've seen those tuts. They've helped me to create this: [link] and this: [link]

It's a work in progress

Thanks again!

Hmm, there are too many stars. But other than that, this piece is PERFECT. Ima go suggest it for a DD now

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

fuzzjp In reply to h3llb0yn3cr0 [2010-04-30 05:28:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh and the reason for so many stars is because it's DEEP in space, ergo I assume that you would see a ton

Just look up in the sky one night in the country-side you'll see what I mean...

fuzzjp In reply to h3llb0yn3cr0 [2010-04-29 07:58:54 +0000 UTC]

Too many stars in the background I assume?

I see what you mean....I'm tweaking things now, I'll add more layers and adjust the size and opacity.

Thanks for the imput and DD suggest

There's always another golden land over the horizon...
I guess there's plenty of planets, too-

Good piece, good theme. It really looks alien, I love the rings and everything. Lots of little details. The acidic-looking atmosphere probably wasn't very challenging, but all kinds of little things add up.

fuzzjp In reply to KapitaenM [2010-04-29 07:55:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, it actually was semi-challenging since my computer dies when I try to work with larger files =/

Plus I had issues with the nebula on the right...It took FOREVER for it to look right lol
