Description
A blood red moon hung deep in the sky behind the smoke. Its intensity gave her the adrenaline to keep running. Her feet hit the ground in unison with each bomb that dropped from the sky. They pelted the ground in numbers as myriad as raindrops. All around her, buildings were burning down, releasing thick, black smoke into the air. Screams pierced the night air as innocent Normals were running from the massive attack. Red alarm lights flashed on every corner, signaling the emergency at hand. The woman kept running, for if she stopped, they would get her. Or rather, they would get the baby.In front of her, many of the Evolved were struggling to stop the terroristic attacks that were engulfing the city. The Currents were trying to calm the fires with their power to control the water. Their royal blue irises shimmered with pain as their skin blistered in front of the extreme heat. The silver-eyed Flyers soared through the air in an attempt to seek out the attackers. They struggled to stay in the air as they dodged aerial bombs. Several of them fell to the ground as their efforts failed. The woman saw others trying to resist the attacks, including the navy-eyed Barbells, neon green-eyed Penetrators, and like her, violet-eyed Shields. The Shields held expressions of anguish as their force-fields failed to do their jobs. She wanted to help the brave fighters but she had a bigger task to accomplish. She had to get to the Transport, fast.
Suddenly, the screams grew louder. The woman ran faster as she turned her head. She took in a gasp of terror. She didn’t think conditions could get much worse, but she was wrong. The capital building collapsed as the ground under it crumbled into a gaping hole. She saw three laughing figures wearing heavy, black cloaks as they brought the capital down. The woman’s breathing became choppy when she doubted the survival of the city. She scanned the screaming crowds and saw more cloaked figures searching for the baby. She had to get away before they saw her, but it was too late. To her misfortune, one of the cloaked figures spotted her holding the baby. The person pointed to her and screamed over the noise, “She’s got the baby! Get her!”
At that very instant, the woman threw herself into full protection mode. She gathered all her strength and deployed her greatest defenses. She pushed out her shield and created a brilliant, electrifying purple dome around herself. A split second later, the shield pulsed as a shower of bullets pelted the surface. She was protected. But more importantly, the baby was protected for that much longer. She turned the corner toward the Transport, hoping they wouldn’t realize where she was headed. She was wrong. The man who saw her must have been a Penetrator. He saw and knew what she was thinking before she put up a mental shield. He bellowed, “SHE’S HEADED TOWARD THE TRANSPORT!”
The woman heard several shouts and curses as the cloaked members abandoned their jobs to chase her. Her heart pounded harder. She felt as if her lungs were going to explode like the buildings around her. She had to be quicker than the cloaked group to save the baby.
She arrived at the Transport. Amazingly, no harm had come to it yet. The doors were chained shut. However, she blew right through them thanks to the strength of her shield. Unfortunately, the collision shattered her protection and there was no way she could use the same amount of energy to produce another. She kept running through the dark building in search of the desired room; the Time Teleport.
The woman tried almost every door until she reached the Time Teleport. She threw the door open and pressed every power button visible. A large machine, much like a ring, began to light up as it turned on. The woman placed the baby inside the ring. He began to cry. She ran over to the destination pad and typed in the year 1994. She was just about to push the button that would take the baby away when a hand grabbed her. She gasped in surprise and instantly tried to place a small shield around herself. She wasn’t fast enough and her shield wasn’t strong enough. She screamed as the arm sent a jolt pain through her whole body. She fell to her knees as her vision blurred. She panted heavily as the pain overtook her entire body. She fought the urge to stay curled in a ball and looked up. She shuddered when the group of cloaked people snickered at her pain. The person that attacked her had electric-yellow eyes.
“What were you thinking? Did you honestly believe that you could hide that child from us? You are so foolish!” The yellow-eyed figure spat at the woman. She felt the atmosphere become more hostile.
“Calm down, Spark. She put up a reasonable fight,” a raspy voice silenced the sneers of the group. It seemed calm and composed. “I don’t blame her for trying to protect that,” the voice paused, “thing.”
The woman shot back, “You’re the ones who are foolish! You can’t get away with this without him!” She looked over at the crying infant. His sleek black irises shimmered with fear and confusion. A few more tears rippled down the woman’s cheeks. She raised her arm and slammed her fist against the red button. The lights blinded all possible vision as the engines whirred and the cloaked figures screamed…
