Description
Trying to get inspired, so I started drawing this plague doctor to get my gears turning. The next thing I know, my mom looks over and says, "can you not go one day without drawing that?" It was quite funny, and I was almost done before I realized that I draw my expression when she said that.
I find the great plagues of the past to be morbidly fascinating, and enjoy researching the topic often...at 2am...
A little history: as the plague of 1347-52 raged on, confused doctors in smaller towns wrote to doctors in more medically advanced areas, such as Rome, Italy, or Paris, France. Those doctors would reply with consilia; letters of recommendation for what to do regarding the plague. The remedies they would prescribe were more like desperate attempts to combat the pestilence, and often included rare, or even nonexistent ingredients. It's good that we have at least some way to combat the buboes nowadays, but only in the first stages of sickness, and some strains are incurable.
