it certainly has potential. However the lighting is kinda of completely wrong....While fill light (thats your light in the background) is important, the most important component of lighting a scene is to light your subject! to make it POP. When I look at this the first thing I look at is the bright flowers in the background. BUT the subject is so perfectly posed and positioned!
a few tricks for successful lighting (if you don't have access to studio lighting) is get a lamp, direct it at your subject, then to soften it put a transparent layer in front of it, either a white sheet, over baking paper is great, tracing paper, take your pick! it just has to me transparent. If you use this for your shoots it will also soften the skin and give the model a glowing effect =]
other than the lighting, this image in very well composed and the expression of the model is perfect =]

I like this composition. I love the bright background in contrast to her solemn look.

I love how this photo is quite different from most photos, instead of the model being the brightest, the background is. Also I love the fact the BG is vibrant! Great job!

OMG! I love the colors!! I love how serene and pretty the shot is! Honestly it seems to be sort of dreamlike, but also still real. Maybe like something symbolic of the end of something difficult, and now finally everything's better? I don't know. Anyway, though, I really adore this piece!! Amazing work!
The only thing that I think you could do to improve for next time would be to have better lighting on the more colorful parts - that way it will look brighter and less dinghy. (It definitely doesn't look dinghy now, but I think brighter would be better!)

I know the feeling all to well. I have been depressed lately due to nicotine withdrawals. Trying to finally kick the habit.
Anyways, that lump in the throat is painful...specially when it just sits there, and you cannot reach the point of tears. Utter torture.
Brilliant shot. Full of emotion.

My model was undergoing a period of severe depression so I figured the title was appropriate.
Thank you again. <3

I also love that the subject is dark and the background is bright and cheery...
yet the eye still goes to the subject first, and then the irony of the background slowly hits.

That was our attempt, thankfully somebody noticed xDD
We wanted emotionally distraught shots with a happy background, lol

Masterfully done. Just goes to show, concept wins over trivial things like camera-shake blur, noise/grain, sharpness, etc.
SO many famous photogs worked with equipment that made technical image quality wayyy behind on the "important-list" compared to idea, composition, message, etc.
I hate that because digital cams, now make it so easy to take a technically high quality picture, that it has become the only requirement to a good photo.

I know right? I love seeing those photos with ideas and emotions and thoughts put into them. c:
It makes the image so much more powerful once you understand the message.
