Description
I’m paralyzed. With a comination of shock, disbelief, and fear.Staring at me is a Mew, holding a twig in a position as if about to break it. It wasn't expecting the sudden turn.
Although, it could have read my mind and seen the turn a mile away. And just decided to go along with it. That's more likely.
But either way I play it, my life got destroyed. My perfect normal life gone in... well, the snap of a twig, I guess.
I’m sure you saw this coming. It’s kinda the reason I’m even writing this.
And I got distracted. I need to get focused.
Now there's a Mew staring at me for reasons unknown. And it's not moving.
Maybe I still have a chance to get out of this... if I make the first move.
So that's what I do.
I run, top notch, in the opposite direction from the Mew.
This must've caught it by surprise, because it's stuck for a second, processing the sudden change. Then I hear something.
"Hey! Wait! I didn't mean to scare you or anything! You don't have to run!” What I believe is Mew's voice calls out to me from the distance, and yet it seems to come from all directions at once. Weird.
Mew might not be able to talk, but something weird with all the Legendary and Mythical Pokémon is that they can all use telepathy, regardless of typing. It's extremely confusing when you think about it, so don't think about it.
And more distractions. Yeesh.
Yeah, I might not HAVE to run, but I sure as heck want to keep my normal life. And if I want any chance at that, I have to run like heck. If only I had a Rapidash!
Oh yeah. Searching for Pokémon is what got me in this mess.
I keep running. The Mew is almost just under the horizon I can see. I kick it up a notch, and...
I freeze in place. One foot on the ground, another suspended in midair.
What? I'm trying to run, and my legs shut down! Things are just going way wrong. My lead on the Mew disappears almost immediately. At least I don’t fall over...
"I know you like your normal life, but…" Great. It knows. Now what?
"I... that is, we... need your help.”
I reply almost immediately. "What the heck do you need my help for? I've been doing a Pokémon adventure for FOUR YEARS and I have exactly THREE Pokémon! That's LESS than one each year! You've got the wrong Trainer. Go find Ash Ketchum. He's the one you're looking for. And leave me alone."
The Mew replies literally immediately, almost cutting me off. ”Yeah, well, there's three people we need to find. And yes, Ash is on the list. At least, I think... But one description perfectly matches you, down to the normal life thing.” So the Mew had apparently expected the Ash Ketchum remark. Remind me to lock up my brain in a safe someday. Okay, never mind, that would be gross.
"I really doubt it's me, really..." Right now, I'm stalling to try and find some solid evidence that I was not the Trainer Mew was lookng for. I considered Jedi mind tricks, but there's two reasons it wouldn't work. First, they don't actually exist, and second, even if they did, Mew's mind is so strong, it would probably reflect the mind trick, and then I'd think I was the one... Mew'd have a field day with that.
And then the weirdest thing happens. The Mew laughs. It must've been reading my mind during that Jedi mind trick thing. ”You're right about one thing. I would have a field day if you randomly said you thought you were the kid I'm looking for!” For some reason, we both start laughing at that. "But seriously, Arceus saw an image of you and all he said was 'Go find this kid'. And he knows what he's doing. He usually has a decent reason, but there are times he gets…" "Angry?" I finish Mew's sentence for it. "That's a mild term, but it works. Anyways, we should get to Santalune City soon. You might want to get some sleep, I'll set up camp.”
Uh. Does it suddenly think I want to come now?
Well... I guess being normal all the time really gets in your head, and it's basically everything. I guess a break from normalcy is okay, even if it ends up being permanent. Maybe I'll be part of each. Although, if ALL the Legends and Myths need me, I'm probably gonna be stuck in the extreme side of the spectrum. I have been on the extreme normal side for fourteen years, so what's not to expect?
Yeeeah. That’s not actually what I thought, but more of a condensed version.
I don’t exactly have an infinite supply of paper.
I suddenly hear an excited voice. ”Glad to see you're finally starting to come around!” Mew had somehow set up camp, gotten a fire going and had time to listen to my thoughts! “And by the way, any chance you want to trade your Dragonite-EX?” And it had looked through my Pokémon card collection.
Yes, we have Pokémon cards here. It's great way to pass time waiting for your Pokémon to heal. Trading and battling is pretty awesome!
I might have gotten distracted again, but that was important. If someone from another dimension reads this, and they don't think the cards exist here, then now they know. But either way, back to the story.
I shrug lightly and reply. “Why the heck not.” And the night wanes on.
It’s funny how things can change so quickly.
But there are things that never change.
In in the back of my mind, a memory returns. One I desperately wanted to forget.

Hey this is cool. Normalcy is WAY overrated. Uniqueness is awesome. I am looking forward to the adventures!
