Description
No! It's an archaeopteryx! The animal they are riding is a triceratops.
Composed in DAZ Studio 4.10 and rendered with Iray.
Human figures are Genesis (first generation), created by Smay. Before we had "high definition" (3+ level subdivision) characters, sculpted figures could be realized with displacement maps. With the right settings this method still works very well in Iray today. I used Dimension-Z's Anagenessis 2 to bring the materials up-to-date.
Update:
I'm linking a version in Sta.sh which is a little bit smaller and more compressed for people who might have problems loading the original due to it's very large size.
And as a bonus here is a detail (from a slightly different version) focusing on the characters:

Thanks very much Yeah, the helmet is a model I found and used as a test piece for learning Substance Painter. In its greater glory here: Symmetriarum

What a team, and the size difference between them, good fun. Really like the composition and lighting. You have a good imagination, I would have never thought of this. Very well done!

Thanks, Randall To be honest, I didn't really think of this either, it just kind of happened
But I really like the idea of a team of completely different characters working together, and I kind of had superhero teams like the Fantastic Four or the X-Men in mind (I was a huge comics fan when I was a kid, and even the title of course is a Superman reference). There is actually a third member of the team, but I left him out because it was getting too complicated. I hope he will turn up in future renders.

Thanks very much, Steven. I really wanted to try and show the scale of the various characters. The elf boy is normal human sized, but the big guy's neck is bigger than his waist! The whatthething is a triceratops, just so you know

Thank you for the triceratops. I should have known, geesh!
I hope you do some more with those two characters, they are really cool...

Nice job with the materials. You should make a tutorial video covering the technicals.

Thanks very much! The materials are pretty much created with a commercial product, although I guess the devil may be in the details of its application.

Sorry about that, Bill. It is a huge file size. I've linked a version in the description above that is 40% of the original file size (but still a big image), plus a bonus close up. I hope you are able to view these.
